Derksen is a genuine swingman as I've mentioned in other posts. With our lack of depth in key talls at both ends he makes a lot of sense.

IMO he is a potential long term Gov replacement. Think this is the last year Gov will be on the list as we just can't rely on his body holding together so having a guy like Derksen who can play both ends of the ground is pretty valuable with the landscape of our talls. I think they'd be hesitant to bring in a genuine KPD (e.g. Phillips) with the trio of Weitering, Dean, HOF looking like a great long term combo (supported by Young). A guy like Phillips would be on the list for one year and then cut whereas Derksen would actually have the chance to last longer. I think you take a swing at the stumps at greater potential with spots like this. It's why we are most likely going for Lij again over White- you simply have to take the greater potential than a purely depth player. Haynes injury recovery uncertainty also plays into this decision I feel.
Probably a more balance approach i guess

McKay looks fit, to me he looked too thin last year, looks really well conditioned. Think he will have a big season, he's the number 1, it's his forward line. In saying that we won't be kicking to him all the time like we have at times. We will have 6 forwards we can be confident to kick to and will present well.

It's important we aren't picking players opposition sides will look to zone off and double team McKay. Those players who are low level on the offence and don't have an overhead game. Those who when they do opposition analysis, they look at getting an interceptor on and exploiting that they aren't good overhead or present well.

McKay being the number 1. Kemp, Moir, Byrne, Ainsworth, Hayward, O'Keeffe all being strong in the air they demand their opponent doesn't leave them or they become the target, take the mark, kick the goal. Put all this together and I can see McKay having a massive year.
Harry's a 100 goal type if the forward line clicks.....

White is officially off the list, be interesting to see who is offerred that spo t
We had spot avail to commence the SSP and still stating we only “currently” have 1 spot open to fill, hence WW replaced by Derksen.
Just place Motlop on the Inactive List to open up further train-on’s and limiting access to view potential recruits.

Hope WW can continue on at VFL level with us.

194cm might be 195 by now, not a bad height.

He probably is he just looks lean. Standing next to Weitering he looks small and I saw him play on McKay for a bit and McKay looked way bigger

Interested to know more considering GWS cut him and brought in LaVerde

I like we are considering another tall. List wise we need one

Derksen was looking to leave the year before (but GWS wouldn’t budge), so GWS prob had the feelers out and were into Laverde to replace down back along with the impending Aleer void which became a non-departure that didn’t help his cause, even with Keeffe finally moving on.

GWS do like their mature recruits who would like a change of scenery.

Evans played ok in a few trash games at the end of the season an extremely long way from a solid choice considering he has already been involved in a AFL program
Evans was the small forward of choice based on today's match sim. Granted that it only went for 20 minutes, but Evans kicked 2 two, both from distance.
I thought he was an awful choice this time last year: I hadn't seen anything much in the pre-season and his start to the year was quite ordinary, but he really stepped up in the last half of the year.
[1] He stopped kicking points and stared kicking bags of goals. I think the first time was against Port Melbourne. He had a couple of very difficult shots and absolutely nailed them.
[2] Of our small forwards, he was the only one taking marks consistently.
[3] His tackles numbers were always good, but they stepped up further.
From what I saw today, he would still be the first small forward chosen, because he kicks clutch goals.

Derkson was another who put his best foot forward today. I wouldn't say he was outstanding, but he did his job well. And when training finished, he was one of first down to the fence to talk with supporters. I'd like to see him in a couple of real games before I commit to him, but he was making the best of his opportunity.
He made a terrible turnover after taking a big defensive mark that also stood out, but that was the only one. Harry McKay had the serious fumbles today on the ground.

Thought he was very good at getting himself into position to mark the short shallow kicks into 50, liked his nous

Don’t think SSP can play in the pre-season games to have a look at the coal face

I reckon we need to open up the second spot. Our injury list is already considerable and we haven’t even started playing games yet. There is no prospect of Motlop playing this year. Also the Weitering injury scare (and HOF unavailable until much later in the season) highlights how fragile our key defender stocks are. Not that we’ll come anyway near replacing him via an SSP signing but we need cover otherwise the coaches will have to start making compromises like playing Kemp down back instead of up forward where he belongs.

Need to have a look at a Sam Frost type

Sorry to be asking this as I am sure it has been brought up in the past 24 hours? But with Will White being shown the door, does that mean it is Elijah Hollands or is he now battling it out with Derksen? I thought with Motlops ACL we may be allowed to have 2 spots to fill instead of one. What happened to Will White (so we have made our choice) anf what does this mean for Cartlon (1 or 2 SSP) and who is most likely considering Hollands past transgressions and our desperate need for a KPP? Do we take them both or do we have to pick one?

Ludicrous that we’re sitting potential recruits on the sidelines vs not putting Motlop as Inactive.
We aren’t though. We’ve got multiple players that play that can fill that role training with us in pre season - Derksen and Phillips

You’d think with Weiters injury and our general lack of KPD depth that both Lij and Derksen are locks now.

Might have to forego a mid season pick and just lock them both away

Fantasy question. Reading reports sounds like Cerra is fit. How's he looking? Who will your starting 3 mids be? Walsh, Cripps and... Cerra or young Smith? Thanks in advance.
