I would have it

Pendlebury>Smith>Selwood>Jones>Hurn

I think Selwood is being givena ride by the brilliant midfield he is in.

Jones is a gun extractor with little upside. Won't show a complete game.

Smith is a tall midfielder. These types are rare and he is the complete package. Same with Pendlebury but I think he has more scope to improve given his background. Pendles is also more offensively gifted.

Murphy over all though.
Murphy > Pendles > Selwood(His knee will be his downfall > Dubya > Other 2 who arent in the same class

Agree with this assessment.

Don't want to make comparisons, but if Jesse gets the tank and a few pounds of muscle over the summer, he will be quickly an elite midfielder, playing in a tall, old fashioned goal kicking centremans role.

Pendlebury, at this stage of their careers, is a far better player (and prospect) than Nathan Jones.

Okay I have the video of the Hawthorn vs Kangaroos semi final and he was best on ground without a doubt and I say that without a shred of bias. I'm not to sure how many of the rising stars could achieve best on ground in an elimination semi final. He's a running player that is tall enough to play a half-back flank as a defender efficiently whilst also creating attacks, however I assume he will be moved to an on-ball position next year. To be honest if he bulked up he could hold down a key position.

IMO:

Pendlebury>Selwood>Smith>Jones

Anyone who does not have him in their top 3 is an outright fool because Smith has the talent, the physical attributes and the confidence and mentality to become a big time player.

Smith will be a gun no doubt. I believe he will be more damaging than Pendlebury, with more of an X-factor, but not as consistent.

Smith will be a gun, there is no doubt about that. He is only young, but he exudes poise and class.

In my opinion out of the young midfield prospects, Smith will rank highly, but Zebs assessment might be a bit exaggerated.

In terms of a level of players, I think he is on the same tier as Hurn, Murphy, Gibbs, Boak, Pendlebury and Selwood, with Armitage to add to that list next year.
All those players can be future guns, but it all depends on their application to the game and injuries (and a little bit of luck.)

But for some to say he is a dud, is quite laughable, especially the Hawks supporter who questioned his talent, despite a BOG performance in the Semi Final.

There's no player on our list that I have as much confidence in as Jesse. He has all the physical attributes and a confidence bordering on arrogance. There is no doubt in my mind that nothing short of a career ending injury will stop him being one of the premier players in the league.

I really hope you touched some wood after posting that.

No, not like that.

Smith - he looks promising, very promising at the moment and nothing more... he blitzed us in the semi, looked really good actually but he didnt have an opponent.. Get excited if you follow North.

Pendlebury - a star and the most consistent but doesnt look to have alot of development left (as in more areas of his game that can hurt opponents). Not quite a full fledged gun but will be.

Murphy - Had a hard year, i expect we'll see Murphy explode in 08 with Judd and Stephens taking the best tags.

Thomas - Could and might be the best of them all. Has hird like characteristics and can turn a match. Works very hard around the ground but needs to get the pill more often.

Jones - Ready made player, tough in and under that needs to get his possy count up to 23+ next year and be more damaging on the offensive. Doesnt have the class of the others.

Selwood - The best of the lot - so far. His knee is a query. Tough, can find the ball and break open the game. One paced but is so effective with his touches it doesnt matter.

Hurn - Dont know much about this guy but he looks 50. Quads of steel and can run and carry and has a nice booming kick. Ready made and looks to have settled in beautifully.

Ellis - First year of AFL footy this year, did ok. No doubt will play most H&A games next year barring injury. Can win the ball and use it nicely, needs to bulk up, work on his fitness and speed. I think he'll be a star but still ? marks.

Im Kirbatron, thats my take.

Smith definately has all the weapons.
However, I can't recall him spending most of his game time in the middle which Pendlebury does. In saying that he has bucket loads of talent and I'm sure he will move into a full time midfield and really start tearing it up :thumbsu:

Smith gets to take on the new challenge in season 08. Midfield for Dubya!!

Might end up ok, but didn't you do a similair thread about Brad Moran this time last year? Tell me how he's going.

Buddy there is a difference.

SMITH = F/S (akka top 10 pick) - MORAN = Project player with potential. Get with it.

Oh yeh - ask smiths old man. He's on your coaching panel.

Selwood will be his only contender over the coming years.

Chuck the other three away...they will not get near him over the next few years. They just don't have what he has, while he has got everything they have got.

I think that Smith is a talented prospect but I'd much rather have Jones at the bottom of the packs constantly than Smith lurking around the half back line.

I agree with this statement 200%, Jones will be a future AA player
