overated-betts, isn't in the game enough and doesn't get a lot of the ball, should start kicking more than a goal a game and should be getting 12-15 poss at least per game.

underated- setanta, people just like him because he's irish but really he is a solid defender who is also extremely effective in the forward line

Exactly, I don't see how getting excited over a 19 year old who looks a great prospect is overrating someone.

Anyway..

I agree that Setanta is underrated also. He is such a utility, people can't understand the guy can basically play any position on the ground and has come on in absolute leaps and bounds since we drafted him. Very very very big call here, (perhaps I am overrating him :rolleyes:;):D) but I think this Irishman will be the best of the lot!

Hard to tell who is over-rated and under-rated at our club because a lot players mentioned here are all too young to tell.

Ryan Houlihan; is massively under-rated by all supporters (especially our supporters!) superb foot skills and a cool head down back.

Andrew Walker; hasn't had the oppurtunity to show us what he is capable of week in-week out quite yet with his roles he plays for the team.

Marc Murphy; under-rated by Collingwood supporters who believe Pendlebury and Thomas are better players, we will see in two-three years time when Murph wins a brownlow!
 
Jamison is underrated by outsiders for the games he's played. LLoyd got the cheapest of goals on him it was laughable. The kid will be a gem. Mark my words.

Setanta is hugely underrated by outsiders. He's one of our best kicks for goal (accuracy wise, not style). You hear the commentators saying 'don't kick it to him' but he has a great kick. He also makes good decisions when he has the ball.

Russell is overrated. He has teased us with a couple of great performances but other than that he's been very average.
 
Over Rated = Hartlett

Under Rated = Walker & Thornton- and the reason being because they get massive tasks every week and do them quite well. Thornton takes the 2nd best forward and if the number 1 is on fire he then moves on to him. Walker usually takes the number 1 taller running mid-fielder. Burgoyne etc.

If he's as good as you say he is then name how many games he's burst open? How many brownlow votes has he received?

The way I see it is Non Carlton see him as a complete hack which is way too harsh fix his decision making and he could end up a star.

From Carlton fans they already see him as a star which he is not.

Walker's 2007 was ok and showed glimpses of future dominance, his first two games were great and probably got us back into the mix vs bombers with that goal on the boundary.

From there he struggled until round 9. From rounds 10-16 we were seeing how good he potentially can be, after he came back from injury (which I believe was rushed) he did all the hard work and accumulated mass possession, but turned it over way too much.
 
Overrated - I hate to do this, but Russell. He really needs to show a step up next year, or he will be overtaken by the likes of Jackson, Grigg, Anderson, Hadley etc for the "extra" mid spot

Underrated - By fans outside of us, probably Simpson or Carrots.
By those on this board, IMO, Houlihan. Yes he is soft, but he is an outside player (ala Campo). Uses the ball well always and should push back to a HFF next year with any luck.

I love how people compare Murp to Thomas & Pendlebury....not only Collingwood supporters but even stupid Richmond supporters.

Murphy is so so so Underrated....people forget first year needs a shoulder reco....watch the footage, he does his shoulder, gets up in pain, keeps playing, cops some bumps (true Brisbane style) then is still in the play and tackles and more bumps.....

Murphy is a star in the making...and teams better open their eyes in the next 3 years....

Overrated: Bower (harsh but IMO), Cloke (a few good games isn't enough), Hartlett (been there to long) and Russell

Underrated: Murphy (as above), Big Setanta, Thorton (played FB as Rookie and then had to hold down that spot since, some big jobs), Fisher (great hands) and of late Stevens (many opposition supporters think his addition is nothing)

100% agree with Russell

What did you think of Russell's move onto HFF? I thought it was more productive than having him in the centre. Although I'd like to see the two flanks occupied by Walker and Houlihan next season pushing deep onto wing. Free up the forward line as it suits our forwards better seeing as we don't really have a great pack mark (fisher too lightly framed to do any damage)

I have scarcely heard a mention of Carrots since the end of the season. He was clearly our best player lasy yr and won the B & F. He's been completely overshadowed by the likes of a returning Stevens, Judd, Murph and GIbbs as well.

For that reason i would like to Nominate Andrew Carrazzo as under-rated

I know i will cop back-lash for this, but.... i think JK was over-rated. Not to say that he is not a great potential, but thats all he's been ..."potential". He showed very little in the way of speed, agility and coordination in the few games he did play for us.
I think that if you compared him to other great talls at a young age, you would find that he'd come off second best.

I'd like to hear thoughts on other ex-Carlton players, but I think the idea was to look at our current list.
Kennedy was rated as a potential "good" CHF in the Earl Spalding mould. If you expected more then maybe YOU overrated him.
Kennedy is gone. Let it go.

As for Carrots, I think our fans rate him appropriately. I think opposition fans underrate him.
 
Russell is over-rated big time based on what he's done so far, which is show he can get in space and receive and then kick it to the opposition. Saw it so many times against port in adelaide that it made me sick each time one of our blokes kicked it to him.

Houlihan, Scotland and Thornton are all under-rated. All 3 of them rarely make a mistake with the ball, and Thornton's been fighting above his weight ever since he started. He should be doing the Michael Sexton job and instead he's pretty much always been asked to do the SOS job.

Overrated - Blackers, I hope I'm wrong but I just can't see a spark...

This thread has inspired me to contemplate a Houla appreciation thread:D It's funny how we all bag him until the sun goes down, and double the ammount after, but when it comes to this everyone seems to think he is underated?
