I am pretty sure essendon won't take Rioli with their first pick! I think we are going to take Myers! Essendon has spoken with him and have stated we r moving mcphee up the ground! This might be because we want to draft Myers!

Expecting draftees to walk straight into your senior side and replace or free up senior players is the height of folly.

Just wondering Vinnie, how many types of these players has Hine selected in recent years?
None, with the possible exception of Danny Stanley, but he's gone into each draft with a distinct focus.

In 2004, he was clearly looking for taller, pacy, athletic types, picking up Egan, Rusling, Davies and O'Brien.

In 2005, the focus was on replenishing the supply of small/medium players, with Thomas, Pendlebury, Stanley, Cook, Anthony, Iles, Toovey, Nicholls and Cox.

In 2006, the focus was talls, and he picked up Reid, Brown, Dawes and Goldsack.

He's never drafted a ruckman either, but both fit into our needs at the moment, and the main reason he's never drafted a real inside mid is that the guys like Buckley, Burns, O'Bree and Licuria have been around, but two are gone now, and the other two aren't far behind.

Do you ever end a sentence with anything other than an exclamation mark!

Expect nothing less Quigs! Actually now I that think about it I'm dissappointed you merely met my expectations. :D

Whitecross @ 10. Wow, man. . I like the kid too, but....just wow. Good to see you've got my smoky in Gibson there too.

As others have said, it's good to hear you've got your own thoughts on where players will go. I think the thing about how phantom drafts are received is that, yeah you've got to have the knowledge of the players, but you also have to be an expert on each clubs' needs. And that's not always easy. People should appreciate that more I reckon.

And on that note, how "good" a phantom draft is will only be answered several years down the track. Just because clubs draft players in a certain order doesn't mean that's how they'll turn out as well.

I thought the point of a phantom draft was to predict where players will go on draft day? Ordering players on how you rate them is a different task altogether.

That's a fair assessment, but it seems that each year supporters perceive imbalances in their lists and expect them to be 100% filled in one draft and it doesn't seem to turn out that way too often IMO.

If carlton take gibson and daye I'll never watch an U18 game again in my life...you can bookmark that :D
Carlton ending up with two Queenslanders is unlikely admittedly. I know you guys are tall but defensively you have been pretty poor so I was presenting a few options. Gibson is a guy I was throwing out there but Daye at 46 would be a very handy pick up for you guys I think. I know that Brisbane have quite a lot of half back prospects but if we end up with him on draft day I wouldn't be disappointed. There is a lot of potential in him I think. As I mentioned in the review he reminds me a fair bit of Walker. A lot of people outside of Carlton struggle to understand why he is such a favourite. I think you are seeing what he can become and I think that that is a little like Daye - he has enormous potential.

They are reasonable assessments, I didn't mean to be condescending....just couldn't see us risking two picks on raw, speculative talls.

Actually I have to apologise as he did go to SS. Can't read my own computer  Having said that his results were far from startling and I suspect he is a Brisbane rookie at best. He was 190.6cm at SS.
The actual measures would make things so much easier for us amateurs. IIRC the Courier Mail was the one who said he was 193. 190.6 makes things difficult for him. I like Gibson but there is a fair bit of difference drafting wise between 190.6 and 193.:( There is still hope for him though. Mal Michael is only about that height.

Its the same old argument that appears year after year on here.

Its a near on impossible task to predict where players will go on draft day but ignore totally your independent thoughts on the players - in fact natural instinct is that people will go with their thoughts. Thats unless you're doing a Phantom Draft like Matt Burgan does which is based on a lot of information sourced from players and managers etc. I think the expectations people have on phantom drafts are naive - they should be looked upon as a ranking of the players by the poster just as much (if not moreso) than an accurate guide as to what will happen on draft day.

Without having read the whole thing closely, who cares whether its right or wrong, it looks like the bloke has put plenty of time into it, and its good work. The same comment applies to all the others who have had a crack at one over the last few weeks or will be in the next week or two.

NP at all I fully admit I do not have the indepth knowledge of other team's lists. If you guys come on saying that you disagree because we have this player and that player waiting in the wings I have absolutely no problem with that. It gives me a bit more of an idea. All I was trying to do was explain why I was making the picks from an outsiders perspective looking in.

Waiting in the wings:

Micheal Jamison- 193 cm
Paul Bower- 192 cm
Adam Hartlett- 196 cm
Mark Austin- 193 cm

Having 5 developing young defenders is probably a bit much.

You are a bit like us at the back. Hopefully a couple of them will stand up and demand the spots next year. Merrett did that at fullback for us this year but CHB is still a bit up in the air.

Firstly a very enjoyable read. I enjoy reading all these mock drafts because I know how much effort goes into them. However, I must take issue with some of the Crows selection you have predicted. We have drafted and traded for talls the last 2 years. We still have a solid starting core of KPP players. We have waiting in the wings a number of 200 cms kids waiting to get a gig. Moran, Griffin, Sellar, Tippett so I would be less than impressed if we selected leading FF type such as Sampey. No need for him at all. I like Whitecross but not at 10. 27 would be fine for him. Good player. Please if you want surprises off load them to other teams for a change. We have enough projects left over from the previous regime so no more of that type please. If we were to take a ruck, Simpson is right in our sights and Greenwood would be taken over both Oliver and Motlop. Reason being is we do not need 2 of the small indigenious players as we are likely to take Rioli @10 if Ebert is gone. Pears is also high on the radar. I think we will end taking up to 4 ultilities, 1 ruckman and Walker as the small forward.

Carry on though like I said enjoyed your thoughts but I was impelled to reply after reading the Crows selections. Sampey we have zero need for and Wundke if we did take him immediately competes with Sellar and Tippett, hence I think we go Ultilies for most of the draft.
