AFL Player 7: Indefatigable Zach Merrett -

Doubt anyone would want to watch again but he did a lot of the team stuff. Tried to block out for his team mates around stoppage. Few shepherds.

AFL Player 32: Ben "Buckets" McKay

He is not actually over expensive now. The big coin was front loaded.

AFL Autopsy RND 7: Done by the Magpies

Poor skills were a massive reason why we couldn’t move the football. They shut down the short kicking game and we didn’t have the skill to move the football in another way. Yes they smashed us in the midfield as well which was a factor. We did actually defend the ground pretty well before half time.

    AFL Player 46: Lachlan Blakiston - Re-signed for another year! - 10/9

Probably not now given he failed to finish the game. Personally I think am not a fan of using young key forwards as rucks early on. They really need to start playing Gerryn in the VFL ruck.

AFL Player 1: Andrew "Pidge" McGrath (c) - 42nd Captain of the Essendon Football Club

Think it is a bit of damned if you do and dammed if you don’t with McGrath. You can see him trying to make stuff happen but he has to operate outside his lane to do it. For me it symbolises where we are at. Good ordinary players having to try and play beyond their skill set to compensate for the...

    AFL Player 5: Elijah Tsatas

Hope he stays in. I want to watch a decent batch of games under different circumstances before I make any more judgements.

AFL Player 32: Ben "Buckets" McKay

Clearly a confidence player and he has played in sides that have offered up some pretty ordinary team defence. Is not super physical which is a serious issue. I can understand why his form is all over the place given the shit that goes on up the ground. You would go into most games thinking...

    AFL Player 9: Sullivan Robey

He hasn’t had the fitness work over summer due to the back issues. I will be more concerned if it is an issue after next preseason 😎

    AFL Player 9: Sullivan Robey

Plays like a player who missed more than 60% of preseason.

    AFL Player 6: Jye Caldwell

Fair call. He has been bog average.

    AFL Player 41: Saad El-Hawli

Having a decent preseason has worked for him. Has improved a lot.

More fool to those getting sucked in.

Coach Men's Senior Coach: Brad Scott

Or we have none and he is trying to plug 8 holes in the dam wall with one hand. There have been plenty of decisions you can take issue with but trying to fix a serious flaw with a mobile marking guy is not one of them.

Coach Men's Senior Coach: Brad Scott

Plan B in the game plan. Have some down the line that maybe can provide a marking option but is also mobile. We have not had a plan B option for ages. I am glad they are not just staying inside the box. The ideas may not work but. We know he works as a forward. There is simply no reason to...

    AFL Player 45: Tom Edwards - Back with a vengeance - 28/3

The basic question is will it hurt Edwards long term? No. He came up against a side he knew would restrict our kick mark game so he looked for an option on the wing that could help. It didn’t work but it is not simply bad thinking. Edwards out of the Forward line didn’t cost us 14 goals. You try...
