Research Small questions that don't require a whole thread

I have a question (that probably doesn't require a whole thread of its own): When did the player positions become formalised (back pocket, back flank etc) and did the terminology evolve from early days to the more stabilised form of the game by the time of the VFL -to early 1920's. (I...

Tasmania Congratulations on Tassie License. Mens team to enter 2028. Womens team TBA. Other details TBA 3/5

both the AFL and NRL have struck a deal with the government for a quid pro quo: the Afl will get its Tas stadium. the NRL will get funding for a Pacifica team or whatever was on its wish-list. The Govt got what it wanted.

    Training Pre Season '23

I love Trent 'forever captain' Cotchin, but the one true weakness in his game is goal kicking. He is very very poor at set shots, snaps, roving off forward packs.... Forward line pressure:absolutely; goal kicking: I'm sceptical.

Autopsy Roast & toast vs Hawthorn & changes for Essendon

more like the fact we finally had a game at a family friendly time. this is not the thread for a rant on fixtures - but honestly they killing the future of mass-support by the way they treat supporters as a commodity and backdrop to broadcast.

Autopsy Roast & toast vs Carlton, changes for Geelong

This season is building for us in a way very reminiscent of 2017. Next week becomes a massive opportunity

Autopsy Roast and toast vs Hawthorn and changes for Essendon

To my eyes something changed in him during the second half of the west coast game… like he suddenly regained his speed after 3 years of looking like he’d lost 2yardsnafter his broken foot. He’s really back. The ferocious way he sprints off the back of the square is just so exciting …...

Preview Richmond 2022 preview: Season predictions for the Tigers

the OP was an excellent preview: the only thing it didnt mention was foot speed and the evolution of game plan. We looked relatively slow from the very first game last year- and the stand rule it became a way to pull our defensive strategy apart. If we dont address that, in the way other...

What are the question marks over your team in 2022?

Richmond: 1. Speed. Many of our personal are older (slower) and overall we have evolved to a different balance across the field (collectively slower) 2. Game Plan/style. Our game plan came unstuck due to any combination of a)the stand rule b) being collectively slower c) unsuccessful...

Tasmania Congratulations on Tassie License. Mens team to enter 2028. Womens team TBA. Other details TBA 3/5

GC are not going anywhere. They have been a great investment for the AFL and the AFL industry. Your hot-take on that is very old and tired, and endlessly rebutted. North are no longer in Debt so now there is no leverage to get them down to tassie either; so ultimately we both agree: Stand...

Its all down to the hair really. Our best leadership calls have been hair driven. #culture

Analysis Richmond list analysis: Every player’s contract status

actually looks pretty damn good set up as we enter a transitional phase. Plenty of mid/late 20's, plenty of younger, and the 30year olds to roll off over 2 years. Just remains to be seen if the 20 year olds have the improvement over the same period to pick up where the others left off...

The Cut the Teams/Too Many Teams in Victoria thread

all existing Victorian teams should be removed. There should be only one Victorian team and its name should be Ian. Ian or Gregory.

    3 reasons why we'll rebound in 2022

From the very first game against Carlton, you could sense something was off. Not in a 'we start seasons slowly' way, not in a 'premiership hangover' way, but it was clear the stand rule had reduced our ability to slow opposition attack, and how vulnerable our backline suddenly looked as a...

Autopsy Roast & Toast R16 vs Gold Coast & Changes for R17 vs Collingwood

I dont think we'll make the 8, but I dont think its as dire as some are making out. for the entire season we have been missing 25% of our best 22 injured at any given point, and its VERY clear, another 25% of our team are playing injured. That's a massive dint in competitiveness. On top of...
