    Roast Another goal debacle

Yeah I agree with your sentiment about deferring to on field umpires and the issue with all the other types of umpiring errors. I don’t agree though with a blanket call that the technology will only serve to lower professionalism and fairness. I still reckon goal line decisions are unique in...

    Roast Another goal debacle

Surely it’s more important to get the existing score correct than a possible future score.

AFL Toast Rnd 19: Win against the Gold Coast

Was at the game tonight - the crowd was awesome barracking the boys back into the game and onto the win!

    Roast Another goal debacle

Perhaps the video umpire could be allowed 60 seconds to make a thorough review while the ball is still in play, then he can stop play and award a score, but only if he believes there is conclusive evidence to overrule the goal umpire. Thing is... if it’s conclusive, the review is always super...

    Roast Another goal debacle

The video umpire needs to be totally fixated on the live goal line footage in these situations. In this situation with deciding if the ball is still in play, it should be such a straight forward decision making process every time. If the video umpire instantly thinks it is a goal when he watches...

Traded Orazio Fantasia [traded with #73 to Port for #29 and 2021 R3]

Reading the AFL.com article carefully, you can see through the spin that this might actually be very old information and in fact he hasn’t made a trade request recently. It’s poor, disingenuous journalism. What really shits me is that this could spark a media circus that in of itself...

More review controversy with a goal clearly touched

Probably the ball was touched but the video evidence wasn’t conclusive... so they had to stick with the original umpires call. :thumbsu: The only **** up is that too often the technology isn’t good enough to give conclusive evidence.

Universal Love Essendon Team of the 21st Century

I’m blown away about Mercs! I knew he dropped off but still. Was Hille’s best better than Ryder’s best? I thought Hibbo wasn’t good enough for long enough but fair call, I probably didn’t consider him enough. I think Tippa has already surpassed Winderlich. I was relooking at our 2009 list and...

    Opinion who do you choose.....?

Joey Fanta Merrett - tempted to go with Walls but I want Walla as one of the likely options to take the mark Joey Hurley

Universal Love Essendon Team of the 21st Century

It would be easier to leave Hooker out if there is more selection pressure from small/medium defenders like those champs in the 90s. Maybe Hardwick deserves a spot just due to the importance of his impact in 2000-01, albeit short-lived. How far off are McKenna and Saad from being as good as...

Universal Love Essendon Team of the 21st Century

Yeah I would much rather have Wellman in the side than McVeigh. I’m sure Wellman was the better footballer, although McVeigh had one brilliant year there. I still think the backline could be too tall though.... BJ at half back is already pushing it with Fletch, Hurley and Hooker down there...

Universal Love Essendon Team of the 21st Century

Is this the thread to talk about Essendon's team of the century? What does it look like now that we're starting to compare our current list to how good it was at the turn of the century :D These days... FB M.Johnson Fletcher Hooker HB Goddard Hurley Heppell C Misiti Watson (C)...

Traded Dylan Shiel [traded with future 2nd to Essendon for #9 and future 1st round pick]

Possibly he was equally stoked with both clubs. In good faith he let GWS negotiate with the hawks and the bombers to explore the best deal for his old club to which he still holds loyalty. The Dons have been quiet in house, but the hawks were leaking to the media. Is that why the hawks appeared...

Mark of the year 2018 - Who wins it?

At first glance Heeney’s mark looks awesome in this shot because of the separation he gets over Hogan. But it’s actually a false impression because his left leg is really just flailing out behind him at this very moment. What’s more, Hogan is just a patsy falling over and giving even more...

Mark of the year 2018 - Who wins it?

Heeney is only the favourite because he crash landed. If he’d landed as cleanly as Francis, then Francis would be the obvious winner. :drunk:
