The best teams at NOT going back to back

Good list. Going back a way, I'd include an honourable mention for Carlton in 1973, following on from the astonishingly high-scoring 72 GF. They only went 15-7 in the home and away season, but then comfortably beat both Richmond and the minor premiers, Collingwood, in the qualifying final and...

The best teams at NOT going back to back

You were 4-2 after round 6 last year. You did then lose to the Dockers, so if you beat the Swans and then the Bombers you'll have the same record after 7 rounds as last year. Anyway, no one likes a pedant! I'll show myself out.

rank the grand final runner ups from 2007- 2022.

Agree with this, with the caveat that the Saints did beat Collingwood in their first meeting in 2010 (before the Pies won the return H&A game). Like you said, the Saints 2010 team tends to be overrated in a number of these historical-comparison threads due to a) the classic drama of the drawn...

News Hawthorn in the media 2023

That was my first thought when I watched that clip. I guess Caro would argue that the Neeld rebuild of 2012-13 - when he cut a number of their veterans - didn’t work, and it was Roos’ more measured approach in 2014-16 that ultimately delivered Goodwin his premiership-winning list. But It’s...

    The Bigfooty Liverpool Thread

Not a good performance, but it’s worth remembering this is a Palace side that has also drawn at home against Man U, Newcastle and an in-form Brighton since the start of the year. They’re not very good, but they’re also not easy to play against, especially on their home deck. There’s a lot of...

Premier Lg EPL Matchday 22 - On Optus Sport

To be fair, City also had an "off" season when Liverpool won it in 2019-20. Finished with 81 points, and at the moment they're tracking for a total in the mid-80s. Might be a three-year cycle thing for Pep; two seasons of excellence, followed by a dip (by Pep standards) in season 3 while he...

Can Alistair Clarkson lead North to a premiership? Or has footy gone past him?

Agreed. Surely the coaching staff of successful teams deserve credit for developing such "talented" lists in the first place?

Can Alistair Clarkson lead North to a premiership? Or has footy gone past him?

To To be fair, the list he inherited at Hawthorn at the end of 2004 wasn't much better than the current North crop. I think the more pertinent question is whether he has the patience to build North's list the right way, now that he's a four-time premiership coach and not a first-time AFL coach...

    Top 5 finals performances

I'm not old enough to have seen it, but Leigh Matthews' performance against North in the 1976 qualifying final stands out in a statistical sense - 7.6 and 33 disposals, presumably while rotating between rover and a forward pocket. To put his numbers in context, no other player on the field...

    The Bigfooty Liverpool Thread

It will be Netherlands-Argentina in the quarters, if they both top their groups - the winner of that game will potentially play Brazil in a semi-final. I agree that Konate will likely get some game time. Deschamps seems to rate him highly.

World Cup 2022 FIFA World Cup - Group A - (Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, Netherlands)

Mane is confirmed as being out for the whole tournament, which is a shame for all football lovers. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/nov/17/sadio-mane-ruled-out-of-world-cup-as-senegal-confirm-forward-needs-surgery I still think Senegal have a good squad, so I reckon they'll progress...

Opinion Pick your first 11 Soccer team from AFL players.

Erling Haaland at 194cm is not that much shorter than a few listed in this thread. The way Haaland moves, making the pitch seem ridiculously small, actually reminds me a bit of Buddy at his peak.

World Cup 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup General Discussion - On SBS

Good list, but I'd also bracket Portugal with Spain, as it's very easy for fans to travel between those two countries. I'd say it's almost certain that 2030 or 2034 will be co-hosted by Spain/Portugal, with the one not awarded to them going to South America. The earliest chance for...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Lloyd Meek

Robbie Campbell was probably the closest we've had to Don in the club's modern history - not a great tap ruckman, but a strong, physical presence around the ground. It was a massive shame that his wonky knees forced his premature retirement, as he was fantastic in 2007-08.
