The only clubs to have used more are Brisbane, Gold Coast and Richmond. And often those only because their players lack form, not because they were injured.

Expansion Should the Brownlow be renamed as the AFL is a national competition

So the Brownlow should both change its name and not be voted upon by umpires. Why not just come up with a new medal you idiots?

GWS is a great asset to the code and all fans.

Every single one of those things you've listed is as much an issue for the SA and WA clubs as it is NSW and QLD clubs. And yet the former get no ongoing concessions.

2016 WAFL Grand Final, Peel V Subiaco

Well said. However, increased list sizes would possibly not be a bad thing for state leagues long term - would mean more players exposed to the professional environment, and given the high level of list churn, a lot of the players delisted from the AFL at ages 25+ would return to the lower...

GWS is a great asset to the code and all fans.

The funny thing is I actually think some of the benefits the AFL have given the Giants (and Swans) are the most sustainable thing for them as a footy club. For instance, the academies on their own are great. The idea that every kid who loves footy in NSW knows he will end up playing with the...

GWS is a great asset to the code and all fans.

Fair enough. I want there to be a GWS. But I hate how the AFL manipulates their own competition for outcomes that the cynical part of me says is solely for their own enrichment.

Looked it up - he survived and played in WAFL, but never played a game in the AFL. https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/wa/a/18242388/healthy-option-for-family-fitness/#page1

Yes, but the rest of broadcast ratings are in decline, some would say terminal. Again, sport is the only thing that you have to watch live, and that is why it increases its value while all other forms of media and entertainment are in freefall.

GWS is a great asset to the code and all fans.

Who doesn't appreciate the presence of a second NSW side? NSW has been a cradle of champion footballers: Bunton, Jesaulenko, Carey, Hird, Kelly. As a kid growing up in NSW I admired the fact that three of the best footballers in the 90s were from NSW. But the competition itself should not be...

GWS is a great asset to the code and all fans.

The number of people watching doesn't need to increase, it just has to be the main vector through which advertisers can reach their audience.

GWS is a great asset to the code and all fans.

The Bears suffered early because they drafted players from SA like McGuinness refused to go there. The same happened to Fremantle with McLeod. The SANFL and their players obstinate hold out from a national league was more backwards than anything from Victoria. It was draft tampering, which the...

GWS is a great asset to the code and all fans.

Did you miss the last sentence? The value of sports has appreciated because it's the only thing that people have to watch live. In a world where people download TV shows and movies, how do advertisers guarantee they can reach the masses? Sport.

GWS is a great asset to the code and all fans.

How is it vastly different? They have three-four different sports all competing for the same TV dollar. NRL has seen the same rate of rights increases between each deal as the AFL. They don't even have national exposure like the AFL do. You look up any TV rights deal for a broadcasted sport in...

    Brownlow - A grade winners

Agreed. One of the few players who could kick equally well off each foot.
