Player Watch # 3: Darcy Parish - Left out of round 1 team - Kicks 5 in VFL practice match

Thought he showed some flashes in 2016 that indicated he had nous around goal. My theory is he'd do better deep as a crumber if he's not playing in the middle - feel like he gets a bit lost when playing in between on a flank.

Exactly. He epitomised the work rate that turned our season around. If a big part of the message is that to turn into a quality side we need to bring that every week, then as long as he’s still doing that, and playing well, you can hardly drop him until the likes of Laverde demonstrate they can...

Well to be fair no team had ever scored a goal directly from a centre clearance until this season.

People realise its only for centre bounces, yeah? Not as drastic a change as is being made out.

Player Watch #26: Cale Hooker - Calf injury, should return to main training next week - 19/3

He's my favourite player but the last couple years of that 5 year contract he signed (3 more to go including this one) are looking pretty scary if he's racking up leg injuries again.

Good pickup. He looked like he was playing like more of a leader and taking it upon himself to be the one to get us going.

Based on last years form I'd like to see at least one of him and Redman in the team each week, and given Redman is injured...

    Player Watch #15: Jayden Laverde

This my general concern with him, too, but I'm still hoping it could be overcome with some continuity. Not sure if he'd be better off playing a run of games in the seniors, in what would likely be peripheral role, or being the main man in the middle in the VFL for six or so weeks. Leaning...
