    2026 Trade / FA Thread

I’m thinking (hoping) we may have an understanding with Rowell for his free agency year next year, given the talk at the time but the longevity of our seniors, and perhaps trade capital meant we couldn’t get it done. This would explain why we’ve not made a hard play at Butters this year. 2028...

Jesus some of his tap work was just sublime - and from a first gamer too! Big contested mark in the goal square… What a pleasant surprise.

So who are the FA's available at the end of the year we can target to revamp our sluggish midfield? I know of Butters, King... Does Rowell's 2-year extension run out this year or next?

Could be worth 50+% of Zac Butters in cap.

    Training Training updates 2026.

I think it’s less about personnel and more tweaking the gameplan to suit the list. Remember when Bucks switched to fast transition for that one year and we had guys like Stephenson and Josh Thomas kicking 30+ ? Really comes down to the coaches box on whether we progress or regress. Not...

I feel for Bobby but I’m also annoyed by him. Plenty of players have parents, siblings die, go through divorces etc and tend to front up the next week regardless. Could have been the difference in that prelim against Brissy….

I’d say as a receiving / linking mid in the mould of Crisp when he goes through there could be a decent entry point. Would add value with his pace in running transition chains from the back half. As a first receiver in tight can explode out of stoppage as we’ve seen a few times. I think...

The bursting from congestion was good to see wasn’t it? Perhaps you’re right and ball use will never be there for an outside linking player. But that doesn’t preclude him from being a valuable linking man in transition. But if he’s to make it in the middle improving his contested work will be...

I also expect that when his body and more importantly his core is fully developed, he’ll add the Ned Long string to his bow where he takes a tackles, raises his arms and dishes it off etc. His core strength just isn’t there yet. But pleasing to see he’s put on size over the offseason. His...

Linebreakingpace as a link man is a plus. If he can develop his over marking (big if) he can float forward and be a threat Ala Bont. His decision making appears good to my eye. Eg waiting and holding the ball, drawing a player before releasing. So a few strong attributes to work with. Agreed...

They’re all freaks and superstars though. You could name a handful of key position players who impacted early too. Doesn’t mean it fits the general trend.

Some losing patience with Allen’s development. Have to remember he’s key position height, so will take longer to grow into his body than a smaller mid. Hoping that better intent will come with better core strength, and it’s not just a feature of his that never gets ironed out.

I tend to agree. I think Long projects more as a defensive mid ala Dunkley, and we still need a clearance beast like Oliver in the mix. It’s not a case of one or the other though.

We’re all suspecting and supposing without knowing the contractual mechanics at play. If Oliver to the Pies comes to fruition we’ll undoubtedly find out more.

In our initial agreement with them, We may stipulate that their contributions persist no matter what happens to his contract thereafter? If not they can keep him, play him in the VFL etc… I imagine it all would come down to the terms of our initial agreement with Melbourne, and we can make it...
