    Unfortunately the game is only played once. We all understand the concept of expected score, you just can't rely on it as an individual metric to judge performance because as you have said it relies on averages taken using a much larger sample size and doesn't account for the intangible factors...

    At the end of the day bad kicking is bad footy. Winning the 'expected score' but still managing to lose the game actually makes the opposite point to what the poster is trying to imply.
