Game Day Around The Grounds Rnds 6 - 10

I'm not sure they deserve the credit but the AFL will be doing cartwheels. Some absolute bangers this weekend and they were not the ones you thought they would be.

There is no way anyone is waiving Elijah's rights. Fullstop.

Absolutely with you on this one. The term "struggling" has been drawn to a completely different meaning to what was intended by Wright. I want there to be accountability for this as much as anyone once a proper process has been concluded. Ask yourself, if a mate while watching the game said...

Media Carlton in the Media (articles, podcasts etc) - Part IV

Exactly, the club was under huge pressure to address the situation and Wright got the job. There is an ongoing investigation and he cannot prejudice that. About the only thing he would have been able to do would be to throw Elijah under the bus. I assume no-one here wanted that. If people...

Autopsy 2026 Rd 6 Collapse. Copy. Paste.

This doesn't need rationalisation or understanding from the clubs perspective, they have stuffed up mightily and every department involved should be held to account.

Exactly this, there was a reason Dean was bid on at 3 (not just to piss Carlton off), and he has the attitude and commitment to make the best of himself. Jagga I suspect will be seen as a masterstroke in years to come. If both these happened to not come off the revisionists will be falling...

Curnow - Was gone hell or high water, and hasn't shown much value for the price the Swans paid. Matt Kennedy - We would still be trying to pigeon hole into roles he is not suited for, happy that both he and the club got a result. Owies - Really? TDK - Honestly, if we paid him 1.4m a year the...

The plan should not be to "draft" B graders, but develop them. All the successful teams have a succession of quality depth drafted late or at nominal cost. If we get development and systems right the drafting takes care of itself.

    Restricted Free Agent Zak Butters

Which was part of the reason I said Geelong works better. This promises to be one of the few occasions where a top 8 side needs to give up something (plenty) to get the free agent they are after.

    Restricted Free Agent Zak Butters

My Zac Butters clusterfudge fanfic. Zac: “I’ll be nominating Western Bulldogs”. WBFC: ”Here’s a great big contract” PAFC: “We’ll match that” WBFC: “No worries, well that’s great you get pick 5” PAFC: “Nah mate, not enough” WBFC: Showing empty pockets “sorry bud, that’s the best you will...

I do like the idea of the compensation being the ship-to team. Would make a situation where top sides have to pay full fare for talent, and provide a path for quality talent to make its way to lower teams. Though compensation would still need to be outside top 10.

The most stupid part of FA compensation is that it encourages the weakest teams (the ones who need to keep their best players) to pass their best players to teams higher up the ladder, at zero cost to the team getting the players. I don't blame West Coast for letting Oscar Allen go for number...

Why all the fluffing around with these peripheral rules which create undue complexity for fans, media and clubs. The stupid part is the AFL has surprisingly done most of the hard work. If the value of points is reflective of true value, then trading for them will not be as exploitable. The...

Free agency is covered in the CBA, therefore any changes would be challenged by the AFLPA that reduced mobility. They can throw the kitchen sink at Father Son or Academy without consequence beyond a few clubs banging tables.

This will be an unintended consequence of the new rules. The AFL love trades, anything to keep them in the news. So what happens now?: -Teams won't be able to trade up for a higher position in the draft, and if they can the price will become exorbitant, as those teams who need first rounders...
