AFL Player 13: Nik Cox - cleared to return! - 11/11

I'd like to see him given time to develop two roles. One as a hard running intercept player, the other as a hard running half forward. Having a 200cm bloke starting forward of the ball but running like a third wingman provides more options to get the ball out of the back half. He didn't quite...

    Competitions 2025 AFL Mock Draft

So was letting Robey slip through to us just wishful thinking?

    Leaving a front-end contract early.

If the Salary cap was "over 5 years", then the players would still get paid. It is a bit like the taxation system! The other thing I was thinking about out loud on the bomber's board, looking at Draper and Merrett being unrestricted free agents at the end of their contracts, is a "U-shaped"...

The players still get full value of their contract though.

    Leaving a front-end contract early.

Why is nothing said about players leaving front-end contracts the year before their pay drops. Surely, this a cheeky move and one that clubs should hold them to, especially if they're moving to another club for a pay rise as well. What is the rule on that and what protections do clubs have?

Recommitted Zach Merrett [UFA 2027] - Wanted a trade to Hawthorn, but it didn't get done

Yes, which is why trading him next year for a late first-rounder, a 2027 first-rounder and a player would be optimal. There is enough time to find a club that Merrett wants to go to and can do that trade before next trade period. If Essendon has another year like last year, then the club will...

    Delisted 8: Ben "Goblin" Hobbs - Delisted - 20/10

He's younger and they can drive him into the ground to a retirement by the age of 27 lol

West Coast supporting mate at work wants that for them this year.

Recommitted Zach Merrett [UFA 2027] - Wanted a trade to Hawthorn, but it didn't get done

This is up there with "antifa did January 6". 100% not true. Essendon said their player was not up for trade. Just like you can say your house is not up for sale. However, if someone feels like they want to live in exactly your house right now, can they make you an offer that makes you sell the...

I hope Blackison trains in all three thirds of the ground this pre-season. It would be great to have someone who is forward and 2nd ruck who can go back to defence in a pinch. That could be to cover an injury or swing Reid, McKay or Ridley forward.

    Team Mgmt. 2026 Best 23

I don't mind him shaping up to play on a loose half back, but then running off him and backing that his hurt factor will be much higher, and also be forward of centre. Merrett kicking inside 50 15 times could lead to 10 shots on goal. Then they'll probably tighten up on him after quarter time

Recommitted Zach Merrett [UFA 2027] - Wanted a trade to Hawthorn, but it didn't get done

So you don't think Hawthorn did this hoping it would work? That it might have met some of what Rosa would have agreed to, but didn't contain a player and/or 2027 first.

Recommitted Zach Merrett [UFA 2027] - Wanted a trade to Hawthorn, but it didn't get done

Is 12 months soon? There will likely be offers put in front of men that would require them to apologise to their families for not taking.

Recommitted Zach Merrett [UFA 2027] - Wanted a trade to Hawthorn, but it didn't get done

If Merrett was considering a move earlier then the club could have worked around it. It was a very late decision by Merrett and it was about whether or not Essendon was going to be a contender in his career. Hawks fans trying to make out like it is something bigger than that is sad.
