Honestly this feels like a balanced and fair suggestion. They're no seeking priority access in the draft but instead are aiming to build brand loyalty.
edit: and most importantly would be paying fair price in trades
The big problem I have with the academies is what's the end goal? Is it just a talent pipeline those clubs are always going to have or is it to grow the game at a grassroots and it can stand on its own?
If it's the latter then doesn't that just incentivise the Northern clubs to not grow the...
who honestly thought the discount was a good idea in the first place. Getting priority access to these players is a privilege in and of itself, the fact that there's further benefit on top of that is beyond a joke.
Let's assume the afl pushes back the changes until the 2028 draft. Now you've got Tassie and all their allotted draft picks and so teams will likely complain that the changes need to wait until Tassie get a normal draft hand and that kicks the can down the road another few years. By then the...
This extra picks seems better as a trade asset as opposed to drafting an extra kid to bring in on the night. Teams tend to pay overs for the first pick of the 2nd day because there's players left on their draft board that they didn't expect.
So who will Melbourne run through the midfield? Is it just Steele, Kozzy and the kids or will the half backs like Salem, Rivers or CJ run through there?
feel like it should be a sliding scale. Premiers with the highest tax, runners up slightly less, prelim teams less again and so on. No Tax for the teams in the bottom 8.
St. Kilda were good for 2 years, won a flag and have since dropped back down the ladder because it'd sum up life as a Saints fan to miss the long awaited flag by being in a coma.
I think Keeler just has to play until there's a better proper key forward option. Frees Owens up to go up the ground more and it just gives another marking option i50. He's not going to win matches off his own boot but hopefuly what he would bring strucurally works better.
Have the two WA and SA clubs also hosting a home game and with the 1 game in Victoria have it be a North/Dogs/Saints home game. That way Footy is spread all around the country and even the smaller Vic clubs get a spotlight
basically my point is it's hard to keep players originally from interstate at the club if the club is continuously struggling. Last four seasons Eagles have been bottom 4 and it doesn't seem like this season will be different.
I see player retention being a big issue for the Eagles and it's hard to rebuild when players keep leaving. WA are also struggling to produce enough elite talent to get drafted, Queensland had more players drafted than WA in last years draft.
If the Saints are to be big improvers this year i won't come from the recruits over the off season. Although those players will bridge the gap between our best and worst.
The growth will come from the players 22 years and under. Phillipou, Wilson and Garcia now have another preseason and are...
Wasn't the issue with Collingwood that they kept pushing money back on players deals plus the massive Grundy extension? Not really relevant to the Saints situation since we've been struggling to even hit the cap floor.
