More good signs from the Bombers, such a nice feeling watching a competitive team. Needs refinement and polish but by gheeee it's exciting to be an Essendon supporter again
The good signs were there again...and that's all the matters, we aren't a horse shit side anymore with nothing to be optimistic about and let me tell you, that feels amazing!
A gassed team getting slapped by a gun team at the end isn't a bother, that will hurt this team more than any other...
We were gassed and a good team ran over the top of us, not a big deal in the grand scheme. All of the good signs were there again. We're desperate for a big strong defender.
Adam Saad aside...I'm not bothered with the speculation of what we'll get for him, I disagree with this theory. The draft was historically designed to provide teams with the opportunity to pick the "7th best player in the pool". That "7th" best player as deemed by the club was guaranteed...
According to the Fox Sports article posted a few pages ago it appears Saad's role on game day played a big part of the decision. Carlton are happy to give him the attacking freedom he wants, Essendon aren't. I think the culture issues Saad refers to are some players are onboard with Rutten's...
Keep Heppell as captain...prior to his recent run of injuries he was the only player who'd consistently run hard both ways...need your captain setting that standard. He'll get back to where he was and if he doesn't after an extended injury-free run at it, then you consider other options.
Quite a few of our Tallls choose to mark instead of going full tilt at the spoil! They back themselves in but they misjudge it too often. They need to get better and choosing when to mark and when to spoil.
IN: Draper, Hurley, Heppell
OUT: Phillips, Stringer (managed), Ham
Stringer didn't look great in the FB feed of today's training session. Only kicking on his left and looked ginger. Hooker forward. BZT back. Heppell to the wing.
Our midfield pressure was better which impacted the quality of their inside 50s. Lots of positive signs. Bellchambers competed in the air but he's a such liability. Would like Phillips given that role if JD decides to put the que in the rack and not play in 2020.
Feel sorry for Stringer...
Umpiring spoiled Essendon's momentum twice...but it's Essendon's response to those shit decisions that's the real problem. Good teams say **** it, and double down... Essendon switch off and often let through 3 to 4 quick ones. Been a problem for a while.
