Is it such a bad thing that 3-4 senior players are looking at moving on? I assume we are talking Daniel, Macrae and others who are on the fringe now. We need to keep refreshing the team. It’s life… Most teams can usually only carry 3-5 older players and even less if the teams not competitive.
I'm not so sure about this. Buku has been good but he doesn't appear to have the wheels or kicking to be a 3rd tall. His style is a 2nd tall but he is undersized. Ideally, we want a 3rd tall to be versatile, quick and/or attacking on top of intercept marking. Buku has the intercept marking but...
Easiest position on the ground. Amazing how many players become guns at half-back after being middling in any other position. Move them out of Half-back and they turn to water again...
Agree with this. He doesn’t fight for it at the ruck contests. I read an article during the week by Bucks where he said that ball players are not the best tacklers because they like to keep their feet whereas contested players are better tacklers because they commit to the contest at the expense...
I’m not having a go at Scott. Good, honest player. I was merely commenting about our depth where last couple years, he was firmly entrenched as best 22. This year (so far), he is behind another 3-4 players just to get a sniff at a spot.
Garcia isn’t in the same class though. I would hope someone better comes along for life after Bont and Libba. Not to say Garcia hasn’t got a role going forward and the things you suggested would help with this.
I’m not sure he’s got the strength or durability to be an AFL mid. I like the way he plays but he can’t seem to get more than a couple games in a row before getting injured. Body just lets hims down. Might need to reinvent as a forward or back pocket or something less taxing.
I thought Buku was pretty good. Marking was excellent and he beat Walter’s in a few battles. Only played a handful of games so still not the finished product yet. At his size he needs to be versatile like Morris or a dasher like Wood. Based on 2 games evidence, his style is closer to the former...
On the other side of the coin, Sam Power is a far better list manager than McCartney. Him being a general football manager now is probably his calling. Unfortunately he wasn’t in that role at the Bulldogs.
Regarding Dalrymple, I hope it was more than just Gowers. If the main example of having...
Wests strengths have been summarised well.
I’ll have a go at why I think he’s not a regular in the midfield.
Doesn’t have a big tank, doesn’t have a long kick and prone to lapses in concentration. He’s also a small body so his bash and crash style is not sustainable. He’ll be worn out or injured...
