Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Ollie Greeves

Clubs get things wrong, but in context I find that they rarely get things wrong when players slip - they mostly get them wrong when they've barely looked at them or if they've improved late.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Jack Ginnivan!

Early call for 2026 - takes a step forward in efficiency which I feel is the difference between him becoming an AA level talent and where he's at now. Reckon he becomes a rotational midfield piece and kicks ~40. Has come back very trim.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Jack Dalton

A distance over time time-trial is Jack Dalton's bread and butter, based on his testing numbers. You don't do that well in Yo-Yo tests without an inhuman ability to resist fatigue.

Would argue it'd be even more glaring. Pretty much every elite forward in the league is super quick for their height. You can be slow as a midfielder if you're big or strong enough, forwards need to create separation or they're just going to get chopped off every time the ball comes in.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Ollie Greeves

Generally speaking, when players slide it's for a reason. Looks a talent but when a player comes in as a rookie you need to have rookie expectations regardless of where he was expected to be selected in the lead up. One club might get it wrong but it's very rare that every club does. Where...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Ollie Greeves

You know what, though? Some kids need it. It'd have been a good kick in the ass for him to know that it's not guaranteed, and that he actually does have to try.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Jack Dalton

This is what excites me about Dalton - during the draft combine he won the 2km time trial, as mentioned, but he was also top 10 in running vertical jump and in previous testing he equalled the Yo Yo test record. It's a combination of qualities that indicates an elite endurance player with a...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Jack Dalton

Love everything I've read about this kid. Endurance machine, repeat effort running machine, great attitude, good skills and a natural born winner. He missed a lot of footy through some non-soft tissue long term injuries. This could be a Merrett-like pick for the future.

Player Watch 2025 AFL Draft Thread (Welcome to our new Central Districts overlords!)

The best thing to do as a supporter is just to move on. Didn't agree with the choices? Too bad, can't go back and make different ones - best thing to do is support the choices we did make and wish the best for the players we picked. Dwelling on failures or missed picks or whatever else doesn't...

I think the other point is that if you're drafting mids to cover a present gap in midfield depth you're kinda missing the timing. It'll just be funny to see the media beat up about it.

Hilarious meme to not draft a midfielder early considering the furore around our midfield stocks.
