  • Hey knightmare, I noticed you meantioned Sam Murray in your most recent espn article. He showed promising signs in JLT 2 - do you expect him to be able to produce that in the premiership season? What are your thoughts on what we traded for him?
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
The Pies liked Murray and it looks like based on JLT2 he was a well identified choice. Whether he performs to that standard every week, I suspect not, but that's the type of performance he can put forward on a good day. Get those kinds of games more weeks than not, and he can be a long term piece.

With Isaac Quaynor (next gen academy) and Will Kelly (father son) possible choices this year. It was also wise that Collingwood got a 2018 3rd round pick back to help with securing those two if Pies go for them.

Giving up a second round pick for 2018 (potentially an early one depending on how Collingwood go this year) is a risk and really uncomfortable to have to give up in what will be an incredible draft. But if Murray fills that rebounding defence list hole and becomes an important long term piece. It's a good trade.
Hey Knighty if you had the choice of Brander or Schache for pick 6 who do you take?
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
Ideally neither. Not convinced I'd spend a first round choice this year on either. Brander has had a poor year, and Schache has regressed and struggled to this point.
As a Collingwood man, what have your thoughts been on Henry shcade this pre season and what can you see him becoming? Handy depth or something more relevant? He is 23 years old I believe so as a key defender he has scope to improve
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
About what I expected. Capable of playing as required but ideally depth. I prefer Dunn as the compliment to Reid as the second key defender, with Dunn in my view an upgrade on Brown/Frost from last year as an underrated two way player.
Hi. A question for you.Youve mentioned him before, I wonder why so many clubs who need a forward to step right into their senior teams don't look at Brett Eddy /SANFL .Yes he's a mature but has great skills marking, kicking ,is super fast for his height.Plays tall and small forward with equal skill .IMO the best goal kick outside AFL in the country, won the Ken Farmer. Why doesn't some club give him a go.
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
Agree that Eddy is the best key forward outside the AFL and that his game is compatible with AFL play.
A couple of junior watchers I spoke to about Eddy weren't really aware of him to my surprise. So it's a question for those state league watchers and SANFL specific watchers.

I feel comfortable with his game and feel he is worth a rookie position personally. Excellent depth option who could push for a best 22 spot on some teams. Just so smart and so often finds a way to get out the back for easy goals.
    Hey KM,
I want to ask about 'integration aide'.
I am soon returning to the Shepparton area to live, and as a hs teacher with a lot of TESL experience and a long interest in refugees and other immigrants [I taught both before in inner-city Melbourne], I am interested in the field.
I'd appreciate your thoughts on the job's typical demands, challenges etc.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gavin [Hardas]

Being an integration aide you have to be prepared and willing to work with anyone - such as students on the autism spectrum (some will have behaviour related issues due to developing social and communication skills) and others with physical disabilities. So every student and classroom will present unique and different challenges that you probably won't know much about until you get there.
    Knightmare

Schools are always looking for males, and unless you're in a high socio-economic/inner suburb area in Melbourne there is likely to be demand for integration aides.
thoughts on Jason Castanga, got in the best for Metro on sunday and I haven't seen his name mentioned yet.

also, what do you think of TAC teams dropping players for going to a private school?
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
knowing the aps system well and how forceful those aps schools are in making sure they kids play every week I don't agree with any dropping of aps players from tac cup teams. but that's just me.
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
I'd imagine those non aps schools would operate similarly and have similar expectations of their footballers so I would be fairly empathetic in the most part for the private school boys.
    Cheers, great info.

Where do you think he would have been drafted if available? Most say he was still a first rounder despite his 2012 knee-reco. Without it could he have gone top 10?
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
No club would have taken Perris 1st round and probably not inside the 2nd round either.

3rd round onward is more where he most likely would have been picked up otherwise.

In saying that though I regard Perris a top 25 talent from the recent draft so naturally it's a great win for Sydney getting that level quality talent as a rookie.

    Hi theta.
I do know bits and pieces about Perris. Great get for Sydney as a rookie!
He's an excellent endurance running midfielder who runs both ways and has a nice balanced inside/outside game
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
with that inside game particularly impressive despite his smaller body with his hardness.
Noted leader and works hard at his game.
Will be interesting to see if Sydney have a spot in that loaded midfield down the road for him.
Really enjoy and appreciate your efforts with your phantom drafting threads. Good descriptions and helps gain an insight on the kids, you got 2 of the Dogs draft choices correct with Bontempelli and Fuller which was pretty awesome. Was wondering how you'd rate our drafting this year and which team you think did the best in it. Thanks mate.
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
If I had to grade the Dogs draft I'd give a C. It's a pass mark but not the strongest overall.

I'd class St Kilda as the big winner. Billings, Dunstan and Acres can all make it and become major parts to their future core.

After the rookie draft if I find the time I'll post a review on the offseason winners/losers.

Thanks man, yeah I wasn't sure about Bontempelli but looking at his video I can see why we got him looks like an interesting player and will be good to see how it unfolds for us.

    4. Daniher (Only ranked lower because he's less of a physical presence. He's the tallest of the lot and possibly the prettiest mark with the way he takes those contested marks making it hard to rate him so low in this category)

    Most potential
    1. Daniher (Tallest. Best mover. If he works out his set shot goalkicking, gets stronger and stays healthy and he can become the best of the lot. Just a lot of ifs)
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
    2. Boyd (Next biggest of the lot)
    3. Patton (Similar to Boyd. Slightly better mover but not as tall or as strong a mark - not by much though)
    4. Hogan (Shortest of the lot which isn't hard when you're being compared to 6'5+ giants. Being shorter and the most developed may not have as far to develop but he's still going to be a star regardless of this)

thanks buddy, you are a champ.
You are a legend KM. I just want to know. Are you a scout for Collingwood. Because your descriptions on players are awesome. Keep up the good work. C2B

I'm just a hobby scout. Not employed by any club. Just a Collingwood fan who loves his footy - AFL, state league and u18. Can't get enough of it.
    Thoughts on tyler keitel

Forward who shows promise. He's been impressive over the second half of the season. Draft eligable next year. Will be interesting to see how good he can become. Has the opportunity to go 1st round with continued improvement.
Any tips on making a mock draft
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
Read widely and get to as many u18 games as you can.

You really need to build a strong knowledge base so that you can back up your draft order with some sound reasoning.

Sadly with other committments I'm very time poor and my work on the AFL draft and Collingwood list management threads take up more time than I have as is.

Would love to find the time though! Any fantasy football is always a great deal of fun but I'm someone who is either all in or not at all and I'm just not willing to half commit to something.

Well said, Your doing a great job buddy :)
Amazing work with your mock drafts- Loving how much effort you put in. Keep up the legendary work. Goodonya mate.
    Got 2 questions:
    1) Who would you rather in your team: Jaeger O'Meara, Lachie Whitfield or Brad Crouch?
    2) Who do you think that the best player drafted since 2007 has been, and who WILL be the best player in the future?
Thanks mate, keep up the stunning hard work
    Knightmare
    Knightmare
    1. Difficult call. I'd probably go with O'Meara first though - I think he will start his career the slowest of the 3 but with his pace I also see the greatest upside and potential for him to develop into a star.
    2. Nic Naitanui and Nic Naitanui.

Ta mate......I would've gone with Jaeger too. Nic Nat is just a freak, you can't really go past him, can ya?
