For mine Kentfield would be a better JVR replacement as he’s much closer to JVR in style vs. Jefferson. JVR, Mihocek and Kentfield in the same team seems a lot of very similar mark first reliant types. I could see Jeffo going out (as is a real chance due to form/inconsistency) and Fritsch...

Kentfield - wow, what a great mark there. Hands like a vice today.

My very early thoughts on Likas Cooke - he moves a bit like the great Michael "Juice" Newton. He doesn't look super athletic, sort of runs with a robotic upright gait. He is also quite reminiscent of Jed Adams. I know that's not a ringing endorsement but it's early days.

Kentfield looks like he's graduated to "too good for VFL" level. His hands in the air and off the ground have been great today and his size definitely worries VFL key defenders. He doesn't get much "easy ball" but his limited touches are generally effective. Yet to be seen if he's good enough...

On Taylor I reckon he's not a proper defender, he's an attacking player who happens to attack from the backline. It looks to me like they are forcing him to defend in the VFL - and he's struggling due to lack of size and also inexperience - because he can't just waltz into the AFL team as an...

Kentfield should've had another goal there for an arm chop after making good forward position. Advantage paid so he didn't kick the goal himself.

Great forward craft from Kentfield there. The camera angle showed well that he decided to take back position against his man which encouraged Casey's Stanley to kick long. Kentfield then used his strength to just hold that back position and at the right moment separated for a relatively easy...

Xavier Taylor is in quite a bit of the play early but he's standing out for the wrong reasons. Got comfortably out-marked there (not surprising given the difference in physiques) and earlier got done for insufficient intent to keep the ball in play. Hopefully good lessons for his development.

The wind doesn't help the guys who already have iffy skills/decision making.

Tom Matthews seems to be spending quite a bit of time up the field around the ball.

Very clever left foot finish from Melksham.

The last of the mid-season draftees Max Mapley is wearing #48 and appears to be playing as a tall forward with Heath rucking.

Fitzgerald looks pretty big (tall) for a mid. Onley is playing back again. Lukas Cooke in #46 is playing as a deep defender.

Mid-season draftee Joel Fitzgerald (#47) starting in the centre square along with Heath.

    MVP Narrm Votes v Hawks - Round 10, 2026

3 - Turner 3 - Jefferson 2 - Petty 1 - Sparrow 1 - Gawn 1 - Howes 1 - Chin I went to the game with a Hawthorn supporting mate. It was quite funny listening to him bemoaning "Oh, that's right, why not kick it to Gawn again?" for the second half.
