Most games of football are absolutely dire nowadays… not sure how to fix it but perhaps teams should get a bonus point if they score 100 points+ - win, lose or draw. Win by 50 points+ get another bonus point.
But I hear that there is a 177cm tall, energetic half forward that pundits are picking to go in the third round… he’s a good lad so we might not want to take any chances that he’s off the table by the time our pick 47 rolls around. Best to take him early to make sure.
Why? Why is Gold Coast, or North Melbourne or the Giants guaranteed top level status forever and anon while clubs like Norwood or Sturt or other traditionally strong WAFL teams for example forever dammed to be second tier clubs? It’s total garbage.
And as I said, you’d at least have a playoff...
I’ve posted about it before and I will no doubt post about it again, but split the comp into two divisions. 10 team First Division. 10 team Second Divison.
proper home and away fixture
old top 4 finals system played across 3 weeks
bottom 2 teams in Div 1 relegated.

Absolutely. Surely we’re not so flush as a club that we can afford to sack a coach with close to three years to run on his contract… which again, makes the decision to re-sign him so baffling.
We’re stuck with him for 18 more months you’d guess… but if he does go early, then everyone involved...
I recognise that this is beating a dead horse at this point, but the decision to re-sign him one game into the season was utterly baffling at the time… and now after three games looks to be utterly misguided. Sure, he deserved this year to try and build on what he has developed, but you should...
But how will Nicks stay friends with all the players if he has to tell some of them they’re not playing next week? It would just be mean if the club didn’t back them in.
I actually don’t mind John’s attempts to use best and fairest data to inform an opinion… and I like other folks suggestions that it provides an incomplete picture and that one could include ladder position/finals wins etc. to add weight to said opinion… and I don’t dispute that Roo and McLeod...
I don’t quite get all the hoo-hah about Doedee’s free agency compensation. Every year there are questionable decisions about compensation…
I’m still not sure why there even is compensation for free agency. Do away with restricted free agency all together and have a system whereby players are...
Yeah, pretty much. I’m sure there might be situations where it’s less than ideal - though I can’t think when - but it would be a damn sight better than the present state of affairs…
The whistle really should only be blown if play is actually going to be stopped, otherwise let the game flow.
Thinking about the advantage rule and I think it could be fixed simply by instructing umpires to let the play go for 2-3 seconds before either calling it back or simply calling advantage. That is, don’t blow the whistle unless you actually mean to stop play.
The players all play to the whistle...
With talk - yet again - of the Brownlow being a midfielders medal, I thought I’d knock out the following for a bit of fun. Two teams based purely on the AFL player rankings. One, the top 18 mids in the country. The other, the best of the rest. That is, the top ranked key forwards & backs...
I think you’d want your clubs draft team to have a flow chart of some kind when it comes to using first round draft picks:
1. Do you have elite midfielders? If yes, move to Question 2. If no, use said first round draft picks to draft/trade in an elite mid.
2. Do you have elite key forwards? If...
And the general forwards:
T. Greene - Pick 11
D. Martin - Pick 3
I. Heeney - Pick 18 (Melbourne had bid 2 on him… rules were subsequently changed)
C. Cameron - Pick 12
M. Owens - Pick 33
Z. Bailey - Pick 15
I. Rankine - Pick 5
T. Papley - Pick 14
J. Stringer - Pick 5 (subsequently two...
And the rucks:
M. Gawn - Pick 34
T. English - Pick 19
R. Marshall - Rookie Draft
J. Witts - pick 44
L. Jackson - 2 First round picks
S. Darcy - Pick 38
O. McInerney - Rookie Draft
R. O’Brien - Rookie Draft
T. Nankervis - Pick 46
K. Briggs - Pick 34
And the lesson for this is that you...
