People have said due to the big membership uptake which is now about 170,000 they may need consider a bigger capacity. I think 30,000 is what it really needs to be but im not sure how that works now considering the business plan is built around a smaller capacity.
The liberals are going to have to do deals with the Jacqui Lambi party and the Greens so a stadium is looking very rocky indeed. Surely they are not going to base the team up here in Launceston where only 100,000 people live, that would be crazy in my opinion.
I'm pretty sure cricket Tas has said houses would have to be demolished to upgrade Bellerive to standard. It definitely isn't suitable as it is because it only has 12,000 seats so they won't have seating for a lot of members. It also as a restriction on night events due to constant complaints...
The plan is to play at Blundstone and Utas the first year because the stadium isn't due to be built until 2029. If the stadium isn't built by the 2029 then the Tasmanian government is required to pay several million a year in late fees to the AFL until it's built.
I think 5 games is very reasonable for up here in the north and I think you would be better having more early season and late season games in Hobart because that is usually when it's at it's mildest.
I think people don't realise this is just about pledging your support for the team. Even if we only get 30,000 of this number signing up in year 1 it's still good numbers.
The stadium is currently going through the POSS process and they will either recommend it for approval or recommend it not to be approved sometime in 2025. It will then go to both houses to be voted on and construction most like won't start until 2026 if approved.
Definitely will see a portion of members from over here. I think if we can sign a quarter of these foundation members to season memberships we will be on a winner.
