It can be really helpful to be able to distinguish one player from another, even when you can't see their numbers. When they all look identical, it leaves you in limbo trying to identify one clone from all the others. Astro, Cody, Red Rich. etc are unmistakable even in a pack, or at a glance...

We seem to have the most well balanced list as a whole, in a very long time. I cannot see that Bevo any longer has any excuse what so ever, for picking 'unbalanced ' lineups. Re "fairness", don't judge the system by a hand full of years. That is a sample bias. Akin to rolling a dice say ten times, and the number '3' happens to come up 4 times. Doesn't make dice an unfair or uneven system. Keep rolling, and in the end the law of averages says all numbers come up close...

Will people please stop referring to the 'witches hats' set by the umps as "manning the mark". They are not. Under the current rule, for the time between the umps calling "stand" until they call "play on", the sides are set with one having 18 active players on the field, while the other has 17...

Because of the idiotic 'stand' rule, a player glued to the mark is totally removed from any chance what so ever to influence the play, and the opponent with the ball is given total freedom to do what he likes, until the umpire gets around to calling play on. The man on the mark is reduced to...

Perhaps a learning/training experience, finding out how the 'other half' work and think. Make them both better at their 'own' roles, and perhaps a bit more adaptable for alternate roles if needed, Bevo seems to look for that flexibility with his players.

Standing 'on' the mark, rather than behind it will only help if the umps call play-on as soon as the ball carrier moves off his line. If they continue to allow him 4-5 strides before permitting the marker to flinch without being penalized, by the time he reacts, the carrier will likely have...
