    We had 9 players out last night with less than 50 games experience and 16 less than 100. So we are actually in the middle of a rebuild. Libba and Treloar are done. Bont will be 31 next year. Butters is an absolute need. along with a FB. How's the midwifery going, by the way?

    There may be other reasons that we aren’t aware of that the club does. We’ve been a middling side for a number of years now. We are going to have to shake things up a bit, beyond just bringing in Butters if that even happens.

    The point is that Darcy may be earmarked to become number 1 ruck. If so, then there is no point having 2 number one rucks. Perhaps it is not Marshall but another player who is a hybrid ruck / KPP.

    We need a step change to be able to compete at the point end. Just expecting organic growth out of young brigade won't be enough to bridge the gap.     I sat next to Bailey Williams' mum and aunt at Mars about 5 years ago. They had Bulldogs and Port gear on. I said to them "aren't you confused" and they both said we are a Port family, but support Bailey.

    We will even if Butters comes, but they will be 2nd and 3rd round picks which may net us role players. Picks in the 40s got us Williams, Daniel, Dale. All will not be lost on Butters.

    I think it is just cumulative effect on the body of a constant stream of calf and hamstring injuries. Eventually, the body just says no more thanks. He runs around in 2nd gear in the centre square playing a gather / distribute type role because that's all he can do.
