Right now we are at best a middle-of-the-road team. St Kilda is probably the same.
Given the blow torch applied to the Club this week, a win wouldn't surprise (a la Essendon last week).
Still wouldn't mean much.
In his response, Beveridge stated his side are not formidable, despite having the likes of Marcus Bontempelli, Aaron Naughton, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Tim English.
"When I talk to our supporters I talk to them about the possibilities and even though we're evolving, and there's some changes in...
After watching his Presser I am now off the fence. Bevo needs to go. Doesn't matter if we miraculously turn things around a scrap into finals. The guys is now a liability
I rate our list, but it is being badly managed.
We should keep English as a KPF. Naughton should go back as a KPD. Our spine then looks like this:
Jones (Croft next in line - not convinced with Bus)
Naughton
Darcy
JUH
English
That's a bloody elite-looking spine over the next 5 to 8 years...
We'll need to agree to disagree.
Naughton's disposal skills are average. However his marking skills are elite, and he is decent at ground level.
Intercept marks are gold. I reckon he could become an intercept-marking weapon. The defense could be readily set up to let others transition into...
He's always been fairly contemptuous of ruck work/ruckman. We got away with this in 2016 because he used the second man up in the ruck with great effect. When the rules changed the next season disallowing this tactic we have been at a disadvantage ever since.
The guy is stubborn. Self-belief is...

Points:
Don't see Buku or JOD as 2nd KPD's
The above spine could serve us very well for the next 5 years +

I listened to Beveridge's presser. What a joke.
For example - a Jurno asked a legit question regarding the possibility of considering Naughton down back. LB treated the question with contempt. Didn't answer it. Just said come-on mate - you're better than that.
Well, guess what? He plays a guy...
I well recall Bevo back in early 2022 promising "sustained excellence" (I could be paraphrasing, but this was the gist of it).
What he has delivered since then is "sustained mediocrity".
He will have zero reasons to feel aggrieved if the club calls time.
I would be amazed if anything happened before reaching the point of "mathematically possible to make finals".
If/when we reach that point I hope Bevo will walk.
Unless we see the most amazing/rapid senior coaching reinvention I can't possibly see him with us in 2025.
I feel I'm being objective with this assessment: a survey of AFL coaches ranking each other would easily have Beveridge in the bottom six (probably bottom 3, maybe wooden spoon).
