Training 2026 Off-Season & Preseason reports and discussion

Just letting you all know that Perez is not eligible to play in the pre-season match against the Bulldogs. Not unless we sign him up beforehand. No train-on players are allowed to take part in offical pre-season games. North no longer have SSP spots available, Adelaide have one. The deadline for...

    Buckley yelling at Umpires

Re the Roughead one: The trouble with it is that, yes, it is incorrect disposal but the umpires simply don't pay it that way. They're happy if the ball spills free, and that's been the convention for at least this season and probably longer than that. It's part of an overall understanding...

Hawthorn - the pronounced premiership favourite

I think Hawthorn deserve to be flag favourites. Until their next loss, that is. Geelong's a big, big test. If they get over that they're set for a top-two spot. If not, they're probably travelling in week one of the finals. Don't think they'll beat Sydney away in round 22. For mine, I...

    Geelong arrogant, selfish and stupid?

Just Robbo chasing headlines. It was a match decided by a kick, interstate, first round of the year, against a side that looked to me to be highly motivated and in some good form. The worst you could say about Geelong was that they were sucked in a bit by Ballantyne's antics, and they should...

Hawthorn - as injury ravaged as Pies

Yeah, sounds about right. The team is supposed to play as a unit. But of course the better and more experienced the players, the better that gameplan is carried out. Friday night was a good example of that. Collingwood's gameplan worked well until some of the young legs got tired late in...

    Obscure players - 70' & 80's

Not only that, but he's one of the very few players to kick 3 goals with his first 3 kicks. I was at that game. The only name I can add right now is Darren Denneman. Only played a handful of games for Geelong and Sydney, but he's from my home town so I remember him. Nephew of Betty Cuthbert.

Hawthorn - as injury ravaged as Pies

Well, I'll say it anyway. Collingwood were hit harder by injuries than we were. Most of their elite players were out there - I think only Maxwell was missing, depending of course on how you define 'elite' (Collingwood fans might have a couple more candidates for that grouping). But the next...

    MRP / Trib. Buddy's tackle

Nah, nothing in it. Commetti got all excited and had Buddy suspended initially. They all scrambled for the replay, but when they saw it they agreed it was just a good tackle. They sounded a bit disappointed about that. But I think it was more because it robbed them of something to obsess...

Scarlett - 3 weeks with guilty plea

Re: Scarlett reported for striking Well, it didn't really floor him. It was a nice little performance by Ballantyne. Intentional and High Contact are indisputable. Depends on whether contact is deemed Low or Medium Impact. That'll be the difference between it being 1 or 2 weeks...

MEGA THREAD***** Hawthorn vs Collingwood + umpires

Re: Hawthorn vs Collingwood + umpires Funny thing about it is that on the Hawthorn boards (I don't know about the BF one, haven't been there) there's not much being said about the umpires at all. That last quarter stuff, that's pretty standard for a Hawthorn game. We should have won anyway...

    Entertainment for tonights game.

Re: Whos playing tonight? Yeah, Dan Sultan tonight. They're wheeling out Glenn Shorrock tomorrow. No doubt the Geelong fans still think he's hep and new.

    The elephant in the room....

Au contraire. When even Geischen has to acknowledge an umpire made a mistake, it must be pretty blatant. He hates to do that.

    Finals system

I don't see the difference. I like the overall package, which includes the double-chance mechanism in the first week. It makes the finals series a bit like climbing and falling the rungs on a ladder. Teams 5-8 just have to keep climbing. Teams 1-4 drop a rung if they lose in the first week...

    The elephant in the room....

You know, that's exactly how St Kilda felt a year later. I just can't recall anybody saying they deserved the flag though. For mine, Geelong beat them fair and square when it counted.

    The elephant in the room....

It would have to mean that. There's absolutely no excuse for Collingwood to lose tonight, and I don't want to hear any excuses if they do. None of this "Boo hoo, we deserved it because we were the better side all year" crap, which we had to endure week after week from Geelong. There are sore...
