I'm finding it difficult to grade our season. Overall we exceeded my expectations at the start of the year, so I'd like to give a B...
But we have to re-evaluate our goals as the situation changes, and in round 18 or so, top 4 should have been par.
C+ for me. Might have been a B, but coming...
Things I'd like to see happen next year:
Mental preparation - we have consistently started poorly all year. That must be corrected. Our first halves have been basically identical for the last month or so. The only difference tonight was that the swans were good enough to really punish us. Next...
Miles off is a bit of an exaggeration. Our midfield is certainly below par, but forward and back we're good to go.
Don't forget we've seen the retirement of VB this year, and Hendo has played hardly at all. Who knows, maybe Mackay and Douglas are next (after thommo obviously)?
I'm far more annoyed about our game against the Weagles than about tonight. Threw away our season with barely a whimper.
Need big changes to our midfield, and Jacobs (almost certainly) getting suspended will give us a good look at ROB.
Rockliff anyone? He's still not signed, right?
A few people blazing away here but missing obvious points. Selecting Jenkins had little to do with losing tonight. The biggest reason we lost tonight was the 4 goal head start we gave them in the first quarter, and our plodding midfield.
Thommo can't play on next year, and although I thought...
Contrary to popular opinion, I don't think we were actually that bad for most of the game.
Our start was horrible, giving away a 4 goal start to sydney is never going to end well, but we've been starting poorly all year. That must be corrected.
Otherwise, we matched Sydney, who were playing...
Having to play injured players is the hidden danger of playing so few players during the year. No way we could have brought in Menzel or Beech for their first of the season - instead we should have been giving these guys a game or two during the year to get them involved.

Good:
Charlie Cameron
Our third quarter
Bad:
Our consistently poor starts. We never got exposed against the weaker teams, but Sydney really punished us tonight, and we never really recovered.
Our consistent failure to convert when we control parts of the second quarter. It's another theme of...
I disagree. You throw something at a player, you forfeit your privilege to attend matches.
The racism of it just makes it worse.

After the Goodes saga last year, she chooses to throw a banana?
Smacks of racism to me. The ape/banana connection is too strong not to be made, even by Pear supporter.
Ban her for life.

Kicking 3.9 in the second was critical. If we kicked 7.5 or something like that, the game would have been practically over, bar the singing. From there, we would have destroyed them. Instead, our poor kicking gave Port hope and allowed them to keep piling on the pressure in the second half.
If Smith is properly concussed, there's a fair chance we won't see him until 2nd or 3rd week of finals. Second concussion in two years, could be bad. Seedsman in for him I would think.
I think that's likely to be our only change. Too late to debut anyone like Beech or Wigg now.
