List Mgmt. Welcome Campbell Chesser (Pick 14, 2021 National Draft)

Carlton got an extremely good deal off us last year getting pick 3. Now they are chasing a player we have a desire to keep, and who we can take earlier than them if the draft route is threatened. It’s the time where we call in the apparent goodwill we’ve paid to build, and articulate what is...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

There are plenty of b/c graders (Worpel, Drew, Libba) around, but A grade insiders are less common. Sure, we can run the crapshoot of hoping to get one via SSP or MSD - but equal (or better) chance of Culley vs Newcombe. Highly rated players, positions of need, and finally multiple high draft...

Newcombe also carried the team through 2x away elimination finals. The issue isn’t that a player like him is somewhat one dimensional, it’s the midfield mix (Worpel is similar plus no real line-breakers who aren’t part-time mids). Our issue is the opposite. Reid/Hewett need a contested beast...

I think many forget that the likely alternative was: Barrass for 14 14 for baker #3 for 12 and Carlton’s F1 So yeah, we chose the wrong F1, but also gained a F2 and F3 for F4 swap in addition. 14 for baker will be argued for decades, but it was already done so the #3 and Barrass deals...

List Mgmt. Draftee, NGA and Father/Son Discussion - 2025

Pick 7 from GC really needs to be a priority for us. With Robey pushing up rankings it means there is now an extra player in that group who will be available (it may well be Robey, or Schubert, possibly Cumming). It may be a draft night trade so we carry some picks in for GC though.

Yuk. Slide from 1-5 in a draft that has maybe 5-6 players near the top bracket (so we get the dregs, rather than first choice) For a fringe (albeit young) mid and a F2 likely mid 30’s…

With the need for points GC have we may be able to cobble together some picks (of more value than 1 higher pick) for GC. But need the player to agree first 😬

I don’t love the stand rule in general, but at the very least make it so that if a player opts to take their 30 seconds for a set shot then stand no longer applies. Guys just run around off the mark knowing that they can get far enough to not have to kick over the man on the mark. Umpires are...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition Vol 2

Reid’s obviously not going to move from a part time ruck to a top-10-in-the-league ruck in 1 offseason, but I 100% agree - his offseason should centre on bulking up and looking to take over as #1 ruck in 2026. He’s shown he’s competitive and adaptable as a ruck, and our stocks are so poor that...

List Mgmt. Draftee, NGA and Father/Son Discussion - 2025

The problem is if Cumming goes to the Tigers then that list adds one of CDT or Lindsay. The only guys that can play inside mid are Greeves (similar to Sharp) and Robey (bolter, but big queries on his disposal). We need to get 2x quality players into our midfield to develop from this draft

Could easily end up CDT, Lindsay, Schubert for us though. That is the risk. History says teams (other than us) go for smalls over talls when talent is somewhat equal. Not getting a mid after holding multiple top 10 picks (whether 1+2 or a split) would be an unmitigated disaster

Hopefully none. Bombers won’t look to split (and points are irrelevant to them). Not sure why we should trade out of the top tier of players for multiple shots at lower tiers? If we want a pick in that range we are in the box seat to buy the GC pick.

Bombers may want #1/Duursma, but is it not for the same reasons that we should want to hold it? Best player, position of need, athleticism (again suits our needs). We trade it we quite possibly end up with CDT then the 3rd/4th best mid available (after academy shenanigans).

Yep his rating has dropped, which is kind of my point (or more so question as to why). Was rated #1 or thereabouts last year, wins AA, Larke Medal, plays a lot of senior football. I get the athleticism question, but his CV is probably close to as good from a junior that anyone has seen for a...

Post 2024 draft he was viewed as one of the top few. ESPN had him #1 https://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/42038641/afl-draft-2025-top-10-way-too-early-power-rankings-dyson-sharp-zeke-uwland-willem-duursma
