    Training 2024 Pre-Season discussion

i have some sympathy for the move to stop publishing players' weights. The focus on and broadcasting of players' weight, height, even 'wing span' now, does tend to reduce them to objects, or stock. I don't think it's woke and in any event we can readily see how hefty or otherwise a player is, as...

Fascinating to speculate on who may or may not make the grade. It's entirely possible one of the lesser hyped young fellows will leap frog the others; remember Ling - went on hols a slow forward and returned a supremely fit on-baller? It could be Willis. Or Stevens. Who knows? I do like Dempsey...

great game sense I mean... some of the negative comments on his performances to date are little hyperbolic as in "incredibly lost". It's very hard for a young tall fellow to look like Adam Goodes in his first 3 games.

I'm starting the year with a big rap for S Neale: in my very humble opinion he will be an excellent player for us. He did some very nice things in his couple of games at the end of last season. Some blokes his size take years to mature; Neale is - what? - 20. He can mark, kick, run and in some...

B Smih has done his ACL at training: now if he'd come to us.....? You do feel very sorry for these young fellows when they miss a year. All the older players say your career passes so quickly.

Mieirs had huge score assists stats this season, remarkable given that he is not quick over the ground, rarely marks overhead and isn't a big kick. In other words, he's the perfect example of a player who excels when coaches focus on and exploit his strengths. I'd leave him where he is.

I think "hulking" is a bit unkind: how about Big Chap?

    Training 2024 Pre-Season discussion

Bruhn approached 20 disposals a game this season; next year it could be 25 or more, matching the progression of many of our former mid-field champs. Dempsey's assets - tank, marking, evasive skills etc - could see him become s semi-regular too. Clark and Conway too if they can overcome their...

    Senior 17. Lawson Humphries (2023 - )

This chap looks more Jarmaine Jones than Tim Kelly. The former has proven a very useful player for WC and may have played more bar injury.

Mitch Edwards was 23rd in Twomey's phantom draft so maybe he was a steal?

I didn't know about Kane Macca - I love lefties - and Cooper sSmpson looks good too: it doesn't mean they'll make it but they're in the mould of player we should be using a pick on. Agree with above comment that there's no way we'll be finding a Hawk replacement at this point but I'd be going...

Game Day 2023 AFL Draft Live discussion Rd1, 2-4 and Rookie Draft

We do need a line-breaker - Wojo was a favourite - which is why i suggested Archie Roberts; but there may be others in that mould worth a look.

Has Archie Roberts gone yet? Otherwise Schoenmakers - "the best kick in the draft" - Hastie or Hall, Derek's son.

I daresay it's been posted but I believe Harry Taylor handed our drafteee his cap after the 2009 GF.

Must pick a leftie, therefore Schoenmakers. I thought the swap was a good move; we got O Sullivan a safer bet than Caddy, and the extra pick, which just might yield a good player. I'm not keen on Stevens - we need speed. Which reminds me that Derek Hall, though a a very handy player with good...
