There are other sports that are incredibly significant to Australians in this country and are much easier to leverage on the world stage (eg. our shared passion for cricket is a massive diplomatic asset with India). There is no obligation for the PM to promote a sport no other country knows.
The whole point of academies is for the clubs to develop these players and then once they are draft eligible the club can pick them up. So, why should Carlton put 4-5 years development into a kid and then they get drafted to another club. The academies start at U13, so they should phase it out...
