Another for the 'exclusive club' avalanche, Danny Hughes, R1 1984. Seems likely from this clip that he didn't have another kick in the first 40 seconds.
I might have missed it on here somewhere, but Robert McKenzie of Melbourne died in late 2022. I don't have an exact date, but it's reported in the December 2022 edition of the MFC Past Players Newsletter so it happened around then. Possibly related to this.
The evidence on this is a bit flimsy, but according to the MFC Past Players newsletter November 2022, Arthur Pound was going to be added to the AFL's official list of first kick/first goalscorers. I'm not taking this one as gospel without further evidence.
A later edition also claims Jeremy...
If I recall correctly he was a Brisbane fan who got involved with us because he loved the siege mentality of our rock bottom, five minutes from being shut down years.
What about DemonRevival, famously pictured waving the bag of money at $cully and last seen running a sports bar/place to meet...
Another likely goal with first kick - Melbourne's Kelvin Clarke in Round 1, 1968. Who knows how rigorous their disposal stats were, but I'll take this on face value.
Article is from the Herald but I don't have the exact date.
Apart from all the obvious shenanigans, I remember the rousing applause when James McDonald got his first touch. Proved we weren't a bunch of savages. Say what you want about feuding with players on big money who don't even know/care who you are (see Port Adelaide fans vs the rest of the...

Melbournes ladder position end of H&A: 5th
If playing finals, how far do we go: Semi
B&F: Oliver in miracle comeback
AAs: Gawn, Oliver
Most improved: Salem
Gone backwards: Chandler
I'm not making a judgement on which source is right, but the Sunday Observer 08/04/1979 stats for Round 1, 1979 have some differences to those shown on AFL Tables.
Just for the Melbourne players...

I remember that for West Coast debutante Tony Notte, one of the thinnest players I've ever seen. If there was strong wind he'd have floated out of the MCG.
There hasn't been a topic this far up my alley for years.
This is what I was coming in for. Far enough removed from the rock bottom era that it wasn't good enough just to win, we could afford to sook up about that rotten second half.
The only game that can beat it in the last 15 years was the...
