The biggest difference between 2017 and 2018 was consistency. One of the reasons I was pro-Buckley at the end of 2017 was that we generally played well against the best teams. We’d generally beat the bottom teams, play well against the top teams but often struggled against other middling teams...
Pies have played in 5 grand finals in the last 20 years. Hawks have played in 5, Cats in 5 and Eagles in 4. Seems pretty comparable and it’s not the President’s job to go out and win the thing on the day.
Yep, even then the Pies/Giants prelim was arguably the worst preliminary final of all time up until half time. The match was saved by an incredibly tense final quarter but it was a dire poorly-skilled slog up until then.
