I think part of it is we require our youngsters to be fit AND strong since they're carrying the bulk of the load. They spin their wheels trying to put on size and improve their running at the same time. At those other clubs they can cover the fitness deficiencies through the older boys running...
It certainly didn't help but I noticed he had started to lose his zip when he first came across to us as well. Would be very interested to see whether the club has him working with sprint/acceleration coaches or not because it was his one and only point of difference.

Hawthorn took him at pick 2 because multiple other clubs were willing to meet his financial terms. That is fact. There was no 'cahoots'. He was willing to come to North on those terms.

If your man goes up as a defender you've got to go with him. If you're in the hole, you've got stand there.
As a forward, you set the tone and direction, though.
Hasn't set the world on fire, as expected for an 18yo midfielder, so the VFL will do him some good. We used to have the luxury of letting blokes develop there as well.
