West Coast picked the right two players. The guy who is the current standout and the 200cm guy who could be anything.
Richmond’s picks took into account who they got last year so kudos to them.
Essendon will be very happy for obvious reasons.
Not sure about Melbourne. I have doubts about...
The Curnow trade (and the Petracca trade) were considerably more than what Hawthorn offered. When the dust is settled I wonder whether Zach will look at that at think “Hawthorn just didn’t value me enough”.
The one who looks like a clown to me is Petroro. I presume he was Merrett manager when his CONTRACT was negotiated and now ranting and raving because he won’t be allowed to break it???
Hawthorn offered a pretty high price and one they thought was reasonable. Essendon held on to a contracted...
And you can’t blame them.
The only way they would is a big financial incentive. And th
Setterfield is great depth but still not in our best 22. Nor would Hustwaite be.
Debating whether Reeves or Bryan is better is splitting hairs – they’re both fairly average, and neither represents a real upgrade over the other. Bryan may still be injured, but he’s three years younger and has genuine scope to improve, whereas Reeves is already at his ceiling.
Your window is not limitless. 6 of your best 22 are in the same age demographic as Merrett. Likely most will go downhill before him.
At the start of 2026
Hardwick 29
Sicily 31
Amon 30
Gunston 34
Chol 29
Barass 30
The trade is going to be good for both teams.
