Good thing about the classic games is you get to see broadcast elements from yesteryear...
Like 'If you don't want to know the scores, look away now' followed by classics like 'Right on the tip of my tongue' or 'Do you see what I see'.

they should bring this back, show 1hr highlights of a FOXTEL game at 5pm in a lead in to the news

For score updates, how effective would it be these days, with the AFL app and social media making getting score updates so easy these days.
Just stay off your phone during the footy
Think I had Fox Footy channel and Foxtel for one year when it started up. Clinton Grybas was host of something like White Line Fever. Had shows like Grumpy Old Men and a few more shows but mostly was just replays of weeks games which is fine in the season but after the season is overI found if that is all they had to offer I did not bother renewing foxtel in the future. When season over I would want to see things from history of league or shows centred on the drafts and future. The season just gone is such a lazy thing to just keep replaying on and on.
Do not think I missing much by sounds of it.
I think even channel 7 gave more value back in the day when they simply had things like World of Sport, Fantastic Footy Flashbacks and That Was the Season That Was and all the theme type docos they created on footy then. Once they got complacent in 1987 and lost the rights that was end of it and they not looked after their archives obviously for so much footy they recorded in late 70s and 80s to go missing. I remember even before World of Sport on Sunday morning they used to show things like a replay of a grand final from yesteryear so would see grand finals from before I was born and got a sense of the history of clubs and league before my time. Channel 7 also showed a full replay of the schoolboy footy game played before the Escort Cup games at VFL Park on Tuesday nights. You would think a dedicated 24 hour channel for football could give you more than running replays of nearly 200 games just gone from the season just happened. Sounds like over a decade on not much has changed.

decent points footyfan78. one might think these days with so many ex players simply rolling into a job in the media there's enough people doing nothing in the off season, they could offer their perspectives and time on some projects or shows like you have mentioned

Watching the classics reminds me just how shocking Peter McKenna was on special comments (especially late in his career).
Oh and it seemed somewhat appropriate that Optus Oval had a subwoofer siren around the turn of the century.

Have seen the Geelong v Dons game from 1993 enough times now thanks guest programmers. Ditto 09 Grand Final and h and A game.

Well...those that haven't been wiped. Also remember that in the 50's and 60's it was often only 1 quarter televised.

The old Fox Footy however had the ABC archival footage, so perhaps they'd be able to use much of that footage. Or perhaps they could go the Brad Johnson route and replay the 2016 Prelim and GF all day.

What they should do during the season is show full game replays but also "mini game" replays of say half hour highlight package of each game.
A lot of people wouldn't bother watching every game in full but 9 games x 30 mins, I think quite a few more people would give this a crack.

Yeah we were happy for the dogs last year but we don't need to see the same 2 games on repeat.
Who was the clown that allowed that to happen? Showing only the 2016 prelim and grand final for a full 24 hours!

Love Johnno and love the PF and GF, but 24 hours and only two games was over the top.
Pretty lazy programming really. The whole off-season programming is average really. Same games over and over just repackaged in different formats.
Also, I'm over seeing Lake bellyflop into the pool on the promos.
Should just turn it into FOX CRICKET CHANNEL in the off season
