Analysis Stadium deals - what, how, when - why we need a new one and the SA footy paradigm shift happening

All the things he listed that the SANFL were doing like Auskick and 500 umpires I'm thinking why the **** are the SANFL doing this? Im sure the AFL would look after this everywhere else. These gooses are clinging to any sort of power they can and using the money generated from the AFL clubs to do it. They also seem to be trying to take over the Amateur League by stealth too

The AFL fund it, the SANFL deploy it then take the credit for it essentially. The AFL are probably better off money wise funding the SANFL than deploying their own league at this point. Patience padawan.

Nope there is joint funding for development programs and the AFL and SANFL and other state leagues have never published their contributions per participant or per program. You just occasionally get a big global figure.

With Academy zones being divied up across us and Crows for indigenous and non-traditional ethnic groups, the AFL should start paying the clubs to hire extra staff to start running more and more of this and bypass the SANFL. If it's paid for by the AFL, us and the Crows wouldn't complain, as it's more getting people in their club colours out there, building support.

The AOSMA Ltd's accounts for the year ended 31st October has just been released on the Auditor General's website and is up there with all the other agencies it audits most of which have a 30 June 2016 year end. I will go thru it in more depth over the week and its a bugger we are basically a season behind but that's life. The_Wookie

And if you want to check out any other SA government agency the individual reports are available at the following link rather than having to download big Volumes that contain multiple agencies.

On page 111 it states that the the SANFL and SACA (doesn't differentiate between the 2) made $19 mill in distributions from AO up from $15 mill in 2014.
What would a guess be at the split of that between the SANFL and the SACA. Footy has 22 matches, Cricket has a Test match, an international 1 dayer and perhaps a 20/20 and 4-5 Strikers games. 65/35?

World Cup happened in February and March 2015, that and the BBL probably are the main reasons for the $4mil increase ie extra commission on food an beverage sales going to the SACA. The BBL was bigger again between Dec 2015 and Jan 2016 but that will only be reflective in the next annual report which we wont see for another 12 months despite it being finished in about 6 to 8 weeks time.

The SANFL supposedly made $14.9mil according to Rucci's article after 2014 season, of that $15.2mil in year to 31st October 2014, but that to me suggests there are other amounts hidden elsewhere because the Test in that financial included the Ashes test in December 2013 and 152,000 attended that test match and drunk a lot of booze and other F&B sales.

Deadspin have a series of articles flaying broke cities giving billionaires public money to replace stadia that in some cases is only 20 years old.

We have had similar things happen here on a lesser scale/different context - see the hundreds of millions porkbarrelled into Kardinia Park since Brian Cook became CEO - but could you imagine the uproar if Collingwood threatened to relocate to the Sunshine Coast if Daniel Andrews didn't pony up half a billion dollars to replace Etihad Stadium, with Magpiecorp taking 99.9% of the resultant profits?

America.

.....An investigation by University of Western Sydney lecturer in sport management Keith Parry last year found Adelaide Oval to be the second highest oval for drinks in Australia behind Subiaco Oval in Perth.

Just in case people don't get it the SANFL is the conduit between the AFL and SA for everything Aussie Rules. Every footy-related cent in SA goes through some SANFL supervised programme and that's not under threat. The move to Adelaide Oval is the only time the AFL has forced the SANFL to do what it didn't want to.

Shirley no one would be dumb enough to pay $4.80 for a bottle of water when they have to give you water for free anyway?

The free water is only available at the bars, from a puratap off to the side; it's easy to miss if you don't know it's there, and plenty of people still don't know it's a legal requirement.

Beers in WA pubs are already ridiculously overpriced so the West Australian's are at least used to it. The SANFL are price gouging, plain and simple.

Maybe an argument can be made for a price reduction now that penalty rates have been reduced?

Yes of course, because every business is just chomping at the bit to pass all those sweet penalty rate savings onto their consumers.

Serious question, Do you listen to yourself when you talk?

I enjoyed paying $10 for a can of warm Boags at the GnR concert, even better was waiting for them to poor the 4 cans into 4 plastic cups - Worlds Best Practice apparently at the AO.

Only a SA heaps good complete tosser would argue we are the best, whenever I hear someone say that AO has the best of everything then they have never been to a game in Melb or well anywhere else. It's like every year and every week it's a complete shock that people are going to want beers at quarter time, half-time etc and then they never have any ready and never seem to know wtf is going on. Go to Etithad or MCG and it's so much faster, ridiculously better service like the purely tap and go bars at Etithad which already have like 50 pre-poured beers so there's minimal hold up.

What component is the stadium supply contract, does your club get $anything from the beer you drink?
