#16 Ollie Wines

Brilliant year by Ollie - so under-rated. A bit of a downturn in form after round 11, but has definitely not had second year blues.

We do need him to return to the goalkicker's list this week, as he was doing regularly earlier in the year.

Gary Lyon gives recognition to Ollie Wines overlooked by his peers. The ones he batters and puts to shame.

Has anyone had a better start to an AFL career than Ollie Wines?
The AFL Players Association recently announced its under-22 team of the year, as voted by the public.
And despite Ollie Wines being in the midst of putting the finishing touches on the first two years of a career that compares more than favourably with the very finest players this game has seen in recent times, he was unable to find a spot in the final 22.
As often happens, it is a case of "out of sight, out of mind" for this 19-year-old from Moama, when the discussion is had about the best young talent in the competition. By any measurement you would like to throw up, Wines demands to not only be part of that conversation, he deserves to be at its very forefront.

Review by TeeKray
After a stunning first two seasons, Ollie’s dream run was somewhat interrupted in 2015. He started the season strongly, averaging 28 disposals and a goal across the first two games before injuring his wrist in an innocuous incident against North Melbourne, costing him a month of football. Ollie returned to the side and quickly picked up where he had left off as our number one big bodied inside midfielder. He brutalised the Bulldogs midfield in round 10 and played an inspired game against Collingwood in round 15, visibly emotional post game after the passing of his former mentor Phil Walsh. He received the three Brownlow votes in both games. Unfortunately for Ollie, his season came to a premature end in round 18 when he dislocated his shoulder early in the game against St Kilda, requiring a full reconstruction.

Would want to wait at least five rounds before making a call on who will be challenging for his years Brownlow. I somehow doubt it would be Ollie, not to say he would not be good enough but there have been players who are more under the umpires eye and get more ball, who are generally the type who would poll well. Coming up against Dangerfield, Martin and Kennedy is also not a great help.
