Arden got a strong result through the power of her personality, but her shortcomings were on policy. Trying to deadball, or run on the right of too many issues, including immigration, budget austerity, the introduction of a capital gains tax, privatisation and climate change probably ensured her popularity didn't reach the heights she could have. They clearly sought to take the John Key model of having a charismatic likeable leader with policy as a second thought that they didn't really make the policy as inspiring as it could've been.
Hopefully it will be rectified for 2020, because New Zealand desperately needs change from its current direction.

If you could actually eloquently make your points with evidence rather than hearsay, it would be great. Then we could actually have a discussion, but that never happens. It's usually troll posts or people posting articles that come from Right-wing shock jocks who have zero evidence behind them.. like the Birther movement.
