15-year-old Maurice Rioli Jnr To Make Senior Debut

Rioli sounds like he could be the best of the lot but the question has to be asked - 'Do we need another small forward?'. If we can turn Daniel into a midfielder and/or Bolton then the answer will definitely be yes but I'm concerned we have too many of the same type of player....

His name is Maurice Rioli. He'll be a mid.

No mention of a 20 year rule.

Why on earth would he go to Freo for, when his cousin already plays with us and his dad has social club named after him and is a legend of our club .

Not suggesting he would go to Freo.

It just looks as though the Wikipedia excerpt people are quoting looks inaccurate.

Can't see any reason why he would pick them. However there could be implications in the form of a semi bidding war for him if he is eligible for Freo.

I hope you are not suggesting we pass on MR junior because we have enough smalls.

Worst post of the year. If we had another 10 smalls, we still take him!

Sorry, obviously not the time for reason yet. Yes - he'll be the greatest Richmond player of all time! What was I thinking. He played that good game as a 15 year old after all!

Look don't get me wrong I hope he is a great player for the club in the future but I also don't want a team of specialist small forwards, most of which are forced to play at VFL level. All I'm saying is if his talent warrants our attention, we need to make sure these mercurial small forwards we're stockpiling can play multiple positions so we can get the most out of them all playing in the same team. The worst thing that could happen is having a talent like Maurice (Bolton, Stengle etc) get disillusioned playing years in our seconds only to move elsewhere through lack of opportunity.

But sorry back to the Maurice spank-fest!

Dont worry. His Dad went OK in the midfield!

With Daniel being at rfc already I seriously don't believe freo are an option , the greatest challenge will be enjoying melb life which is a world away from the Tiwi islands as Perth is too

Yeah, I agree. I'm just pointing out that there are implications if he is eligible for Freo, even if he isn't interested in playing for them.

I suspect if he plays AFL it'll be for Richmond, especially with the family connections in Melbourne, 4 family members playing for Melbourne clubs, but isn't there also family playing at West Coast? He's got family ties in both cities doesn't he?

Will be attending boarding school in Melbourne from next year.

He's 15. Wait til he is about 20 before deciding whether he is too small. If he ends up with a body shape like his dad he'll be a strong little prick.

in any case we have to keep building and rebuilding . If he has the Rioli talent in full measure you'd take him any day. especially for 20% off. I hope he is bid on at 1!! That's how good I want him to be.

Reality often gets in the way of my dreams though :p

MJ looks like he is roughly around 170-172cm at the moment, His Dad was 176cm and 82kgs when he played back in 1982
The kid is just 15 years old and i would be certain he will get to 182-185cm by the time he is 19/20 years old and will certainly have that strong build senior had.

He wont be a small foward but more a Midfielder and will definitely have a growth spurt in the next 3-4 years

no guarantees that everyone grows 10cm from the age of 15yo , none of the 4 boys in our family did ,

For me this will be a no brainer

We have the kid under our noses and have the chance to enhance our relationship with him for the next 3 years and instill the Tiger / Richmond culture and mentality.

Schooling at Scotch and Daniel around whilst having the kid regularly at the club mingling with Rance,Cotchin,Dusty,Rioli,Riewoldt,Bolton,Stengle etc
Coaches giving him advice and Dimma's wife cooking his favourite food once a week - How could he go anywhere els lol
