according to New Scientist magazine... perpetually around the corner no more... the clue? the tell?

Google, IBM, Microsoft and a slew of others are suddenly hiring app designers for quantum computers.

Billions of times faster and more powerful than conventional computing they will usher in the new age of robotics, programmable matter, virtual reality, lifelike simulations, artificial intelligence and more

Let's hope it doesn't all go pear shaped... Elon is still worried we are just a biological bootstrap for a digital intelligence :)

It's still well around the corner for the general public, there's always some fancy technology that people go on about that's "right around the corner" and it still hasn't happened. Flexible screens have been talked about for years, organic storage for even longer, VR has only just started becoming a thing and that was first talked about in the 50's. It's coming, but not for a while.

It's at the same stage conventional comps were at in the 1950's... but when you are talking about something potentially billions of times faster then things could happen very quickly
