NFL 2018 Head Coach/ OC/DC & GM News

Even better news for the Broncos fans like smacky Blacky - McAhhDud has competiton for the QB coaches job in Denver - from the former Giants OC!!

Sullivan, who was on the Jaguars staff when Broncos offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave ran the offense in Jacksonville, had two stints as the quarterbacks coach for the Giants sandwiched around a couple of years as the offensive coordinator in Tampa.

He moved up to offensive coordinator with the Giants when McAdoo became the head coach in 2016 and took over offensive playcalling duties during the 2017 season, although the move didn’t do much to spark a unit hamstrung by injuries, poor offensive line play and other shortcomings.

That left them as one of a handful of teams to score fewer points than the Broncos...

You understand how the draft works right?
Yes, ol' Horse Face passes on good QB and instead drafts dudes with trendy first names (Brock, Paxton etc) or with surnames that make him giggle like a 8th grader making fart jokes ("Semen")...

Errrr... perhaps the crowd numbers are down because the people of Cincinnati are sick of the franchise treating them like saps who will pay up and accept mediocrity under Mike Brown and Marvin Lewis. If i supported the Bungels Id be well and truly disenchanted by now too.

Zero playoff wins in 15 years and the guy gets a two year contract extension, and you think that will stabilise crowd figures? Laughable.

Id much rather see my team go back a few steps in order to go forward than tread water (between 7-9 and 9-7) as they have been for past 15 years (and what will now be 17 years) under Lewis.

The people of Cincinnati should boycott this team entirely until the owner removes his head from his arse and gets serious about winning.
Perhaps. I'm not saying it's the right call. Just offering an explanation. Don't shoot the messenger :thumbsu:

Miami went out and signed the Bears offensive coordinator of the past two years, Dowell Loggains, before anyone else got the chance.:'(:D:thumbsu:

The things you do for Jay

Loggains was QB coach when Gase was Bears OC. He’ll be mostly an assistant as Gase will call all plays anyway.

Best keep going if you want Jarvis to stay.

Since that whole Chicago connection work out so well for Gase this year why not bring some more over? :/

The legend of Gase and Cutler's best year as a pro was always missing its final piece. Trade Tannehill, championships are coming now Loggains has arrived.

Tannehill was a loss, was showing some good signs.

Broncos hired ex-Giants OC Mike Sullivan as QBs coach.

The Broncos have also landed Curtis Modkins as their new RBs coach, quickly retooling Vance Joseph's coaching staff after he was retained for a second season. Sullivan has eight years of coordinating/QBs coach experience, but is coming off a dismal two years as Ben McAdoo's top lieutenant in New York. Sullivan took over Giants' play-calling duties in October, but there was little he could do to spark the moribund attack. It's entirely unclear who Sullivan might be mentoring as starter in 2018, though Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian will both be back.

Broncos hired ex-Bears assistant Curtis Modkins as RBs coach.

Aside from a one-year interlude as the 49ers' offensive coordinator in 2016, Modkins has been an NFL RBs coach since 2010. He oversaw a solid Bears attack in 2017. He has some pieces to work wih in Denver in C.J. Anderson, Devontae Booker and De'Angelo Henderson, but someone else figures to be added to the mix either through the draft or free agency.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said the team will retain OC Marty Mornhinweg.

It is music to the ears of Joe Flacco, who said his "relationship" with the coordinator "continues to grow." Mornhinweg oversaw a putrid passing offense in 2017, but he got the running game on track as the Ravens surprisingly scored the ninth-most points in the league, although the defense deserves quite a bit of credit. If the offense is going to be better moving forward, they need some help along the offensive line and at receiver.

SiriusXM's Alex Marvez reports presumptive Raiders coach Jon Gruden is expected to hire Rams QBs coach Greg Olson as his offensive coordinator.

The longtime NFL coordinator served as Gruden's QBs coach and offensive coordinator Gruden's final year in Tampa (2008). He was fired from his most recent coordinating job in Jacksonville in the middle of the 2016 season. Gruden had previously believed to be targeting Jets OC John Morton, who would be a better hire than Olson.

The league has informed the Fritz Pollard Alliance that the Raiders fulfilled the Rooney Rule in their head-coaching search by interviewing two minority candidates.

The Fritz Pollard Alliance promotes diversity in coaching. According to SiriusXM's Adam Caplan, one of the Raiders' interviews was apparently in-house TEs coach Bobby Johnson. The other is unknown. Fulfilling the Rooney Rule was believed to be the Raiders' final hurdle in luring Jon Gruden out of the ESPN booth.

Probably Morton didn't want to be just a clipboard holder at Oakland under Gruden. Whereas in NY he's actually the playbook guy and playcaller.

No, Morton was still under contract with the Jets and they refused to let him go.

http://thebiglead.com/2018/01/04/jon-gruden-oakland-raiders-mockery-rooney-rule-recruiting-coaches/

this story brings out how gruden/raiders are skirting rules with gruden contacting potential staff members...cuz he is not employed by the raiders. he can contact or "recruit" anyone he wants right now...whereas it would be tampering if he were already hired.

Waste of an article. Every single head coaching candidate lines up a potential staff before they're hired, even when they're currently contracted with another team as an assistant.

One of the biggest questions in any head coaching interview is the head coach having to outline his potential staff to the interviewers.
