Such hypocrisy!

PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull has personally approved almost $1 million in pay top-ups for senior staff, including those who work for him, boosting some staffer salaries above the pay of a backbencher. Mr Turnbull has used a special power in the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 to hand an average of $28,000 each to the 30 staffers, leaving taxpayers to foot an $840,000 bill.

The Prime Minister has exercised his power under MOPS, the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act, to grant up to 30 ministerial staff higher pay than under the enterprise agreement.

It puts the staffers above the range in their band, at a time when Australians are struggling with the lowest wage growth on record and facing significant cost-of-living pressures.

“If staff are paid above the band than the Government needs to go above and beyond to be transparent about it,’’ Mr Xenophon said. “If we are talking about salaries that are more than an elected Member of Parliament, then it should be transparent.”

But Mr Turnbull’s office and his Government, which is demanding the ABC disclose the salary of its highly-paid reporters, are refusing to identify the staff members and how much extra they are being paid.

Mr Turnbull’s former chief-of-staff Drew Clarke was paid almost $700,000, well above the principal adviser band 10 which pays $254,000 and more than Mr Turnbull. A backbencher earns about $205,000.

Mr Turnbull has 52 staff, including three principal advisers and 21 senior advisers, who are paid between $127,000 and $195,000.

WTF
I'd like to see this in the murduck press day after day, just like they would if it's the labor party. I'm not holding my breath, worst government of all time even makes Abbott look better, who would've thought.

That is just plain stupid.
Shows how out of touch Turnbull is.

Next poll is going to be 55-45 if this story makes the headlines.

Philip's and Friends' Political Analysis & Satire The spill is underway, the media know but are refusing to run any anti Liberal stories. Philip

^^ Surely it's already happened. Dutton doing and saying what he likes , Mal dragged out to pressers to paint turds.
Seen him with Birmingham , the vic opp leader and was in Tassie in the last 7 days , wanting none of it.

Why would the media not run this story?

Sounds kinda stupid that the media would ignore getting easy website hits.

Phone calls might be getting done but nothing wont happen until Turnbull gets back from his overseas trip. Might even head off to Harrys wedding early ;)

It seems Abort's star has fallen since hitching his wagon to the doomed No campaign.

Dutton despite generally being an absolute dunce (as evidenced by his recent comments) was at least clever enough to not go all in on a loser.

Now the knuckledraggers are looking to Dutton as their saviour. How thin must the talent pool on the right be, if Dutton is considered leadership material.

That i can't answer.

Would be interesting if the "we don't sack sitting PM's, we're not Labor" end up sacking Turnbull whilst he is overseas.

Would he be allowed to fly back on airforce1 if he loses the PM'ship whilst overseas?

They aren't going to roll Turnbull - they know the "transaction cost" will be to high.

Also, they want him to lose bad so his small l liberalism is discredited and the party goes hard right.

They assume the ALP will fall apart and they'll be back in government within two terms at most, this time "ideologically pure"

Only as far as the Caymans....
;)

The Right of the Liberals are hoping that not only will they want Malcolm Turnbull to stays on as PM but lose the next federal election by a big margin (ie landslide) so they can bring back Tony Abbott as leader.
