This #rednesday I'm departing from the usual and am celebrating the most powerful and influential redheads in history:
Starting off with HRH Queen Elizabeth I, portrayed here by Rachel Skarsten:
Daughter of Henry VIII of England by his second wife, Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth succeeded her half-sister, Mary, to the title of Queen of England and Ireland from 1558-1603. Known for her moderate and tolerant policies and the firm and often brash manner they were conveyed, she steadied the crown of England for 45 years, enabling the flourishing of a British golden age. She was eventually succeeded by King James, son of Mary, Queen of Scots, ushering in the much more historically boring and unstable Stuart period.
Not until Queen Victoria would a Queen of England have such a great influence on history, and though her namesake HRH Elizabeth II may have the claim to the longest reign, it is one of relative impotence compared to the might wielded by her predecessors.
