Autopsy AFL 2018 R4 - Liked, Hated, learnt

Remove this Banner Ad

Another round of footy is over, still a lot of footy to go. What were your liked, hated and learnt for this round?

Liked - Good to see Stringer kick a few goals

Hated - Melbourne's capitulation

Learnt - English looks like a natural, has a bright future ahead of him and can play the game for a tall and young kid.

Liked: Parfitt is going to be a player. And Menzel is amazing.

Hated: Seeing anyone go down with a serious issue and hopefully there is no long term issues for Roberton.

Learnt: I don't think players now are as prepared for the shitful weather we can get, so matches where the conditions are average really show you which players in your team have elite skills.

That the competition is so even, and they're all professionals, so the biggest difference is between the ears.

Melbourne, Carlton, Brisbane, Gold Coast are still miles off because of this, and teams like Hawthorn, Sydney & Geelong conversely remain so competitive.

Liked: Stephenson, Grundy and Sidebottom. Also, Jason Bennett calling the game.

Hated: Seeing Roberton go down the way he dead.

Learnt: Given everything I learnt in the first two rounds has now been proven wrong, I think I'll leave this alone and just enjoy the ride.

Liked:-

4 points from a tough contest at Manuka. The gale meant neither side looked good, but it was the class players that stood up in the end. Fyfe's goal from the boundary line when everyone else was struggling from straight in front was extraordinary.

Learnt:-

Hawks are the real deal. Kind of expected them to adapt better to poor conditions, but a dominant win.

West Coast are not getting much attention, but are getting the job done. Worries me because we have them twice coming up.

Collingwood are actually good enough to play finals, it's just consistency. If we'd just beat the Crows at home I'd be thinking about booking accommodation
Near the G in September early. We just haven't been able to get that done.

Bombers apparently have something against South Australians, but will have to bring the same intensity against everyone now.

Hated:-

Nothing really. Poor weather at a lot of games hurt the spectacle but that's part of the game. Etthiad is unnatural, but I'm sure our guys will like the certainty of good conditions next week.

Liked: the fact that after 4 rounds no teams remain undefeated. Equalisation works? Also liked seeing Pies defeat a hapless Crows in Adelaide

Learnt: it is a long season and Pies showed you cannot write teams off after 2 games. Also learnt That despite what you read on BF Geelong has some promising youth and new players coming through. Parfitt in his 2nd season is the real deal. Ratagolea, Cunico, Fogerty & Henry all showed promise. And Kelly.......

Hated: seeing Carlton, Brisbane and St Kilda all lose badly. Rebuilding via the Draft does not work

Liked: The Pies coming along. Parfitt looks a great talent. Menzel doing his thing when he could have gone the other way.

Hated: The blues and Lions have bad losses.

Learnt: Robbo is officially the worst sports journo going around. Too pro Essendon. Obviously hates the Pies. Cannot be impartial. To not include Collingwood’s win as a ‘Like’ of the round, but list the bombers as his number 1 ‘like’ says it all. Even Conca and Masten get in!!!

Liked: That Richmond finally seem to realise that at the pointy end of the season percentage is going to mean a lot.

Learnt: Melbourne are still too inconsistent.

Hated: Kind of contradicting myself here but hated Brisbane, Gold Coast and Carlton. I’d really like to think all three teams are better than they showed this week.

Liked: Winning. Daniel Menzel has responded magnificently this season. Geelong must reward him during the year with a new deal!! Carlton and North in their strips...great to see!

Hated: Dylan Robertson collapse, we should all wish him well. Hawthorn winning always annoys me. Geelong in "white" shorts for a home game against the Saints.. WTF? Gregson foot injury. Carlton playing in prime time.

Learned: Sorry to say this, but Geelong function better without Gazza, some new strategy required upon his return? Richmond are going back to back and what joy that will be putting up with their insane supporters yet again! Ben Brown is better than Joe Daniher...i knew it! Eddie Betts may be cooked? The Crows are as soft as butter on a hot day!

It’s april, long way to go before calling anyone winning the flag. Anyway we are the worst premiers of the last 50 years so no way we go back2back:)

Liked Mirra getting a debut at 27 and after a slow start not looking out of place
Learned Slowing down Mitchell is called stopping via Channel 7 commentary
Hated Injuries on field and tragedy off field

Liked:

Dominant Hawks win with a strong debut from Mirra.

That there are no undefeated sides after 4 rounds.

Collingwood’s brand of footy on Friday. Hard, attacking and skilful.

Make up of the top 8 at the end of the round.

Ben Brown.

Learnt:

Anyone who wants to win the flag will likely have to go through Richmond at the business end

Carlton, Brisbane, St Kilda and GC still have a long way to go.

Melbourne are fragile.

Hated:

Injuries.

My three most despised opposition clubs all winning.

Commentators on channel 7.

LIKED.
Roberton recovery.
Ben Browns game.
Stringers 4.
Guelfi [ess].
HATED
Shepherding on the mark. [weak as piss by AFL allowing it to continue]
What Essendon are doing to their supporters. [more up and downs than a bali brothel]
It was bloody cold [good old fashion footy weather]
LEARNT
Tipping is harder than a viagra filled honeymoon.
Supporting Melbourne would be like running a marathon blind folded.
Supporting Essendon IS like running a marathon blind folded.

Liked
Rayner - kid will be a superstar
McCartin continuing to improve

Learnt
Still think they are a blue collar team with a few stars but Richmond are showing no signs of premiership hangover. If anything they seem hungrier and more focused then 2017.

Hated
2.5 17

It can turn around quickly. The Tigers won the flag after 3/5 23 at Manuka in 2016.

99% of the press has been about how bad Melbourne are. 1% has been about how Hawthorn demolished them.

Its early so Im just happy with wins.

Only thing I hated was seeing a player go down and noone knowing why. Hopefully the tests reveal what it was and that its treatable. Very scary.

Liked - Meh

Learnt - Our senior coach probably believes we are better than we are so is making really unorthodox and cavalier decisions, aka Richmond like (but they can get away with it, because you know, premiers). Harmes is not a Ruckman, Jones is not a tagger (especially when Tyson and Viney aren’t playing so no inside support for Oliver) and we don’t have a dynamic forward line so if Jesse Hogan is roaming in the midfield, you probably need Cam Pedersen to kick to.

That loss was coming. Fade out against Geelong, fade out against Brisbane, patchy footy against North.

If we don’t start scoring and getting reward for effort on inside fifties, we are going to get demoralised really quickly.

Hated - Knowing we’d lose at quarter time, because, Melbourne.
