On the negative side, it's still more potential than performance thus far in his career.

.

The fact that Gibbs has many years of good performances vs a player that hasn't averaged more than 13 disposals a year. if you're going to play the oh but he has potential card, well walsh or lukosius arguably have more more potential so pick one would be used on them instead and we all know how desperate Carlton are for quality midfielders.
This is to both posts. Both are right about the potential. But imagine a piece of wood on a lathe , or a lump of clay if thats your fancy. Lukosius and the rest of the draft are that clay or wood. The craftsman can see the potential behind it, the artisan knows how to work it but only the buyer sees the final result

I think McGovern is the clay pot ready to be fired. Its all there in form, just needs that polish. His development is 2-3 years ahead of any of the draft picks. Thats what Carlton are buying and paying for

Have seen some Carlton nuffies post the same thing. Your point?

Perfect... his perceived value will rise with ever article like this one..
Roo must have a mate at the paper ;)

Carlton need midfielders. Adelaide need high draft picks. Adelaide have spare midfielders. These are the draft picks in play right now:

FIRST ROUND
Pick 1: Carlton
Pick 7: Adelaide
Pick 14: Adelaide (received off Melbourne)

SECOND ROUND
Pick 19: Adelaide (received off Carlton)
Pick 24: Carlton (received off Western Bulldogs)
Pick 25: Carlton (received off Adelaide)
THIRD ROUND
Pick 37: Adelaide (received off Carlton)
FOURTH ROUND
Pick 68: Adelaide (received off Melbourne)
FIFTH ROUND
Pick 73: Carlton
Pick 79: Adelaide

so what are we looking for? picks 3 & 4? 4 & 5? 2& 3?

it just looks like they dont have the currency, other than 1, and we'd need to turn 1 into 2 & 3 or something... and all we've got is 7 (and any other players who want to be traded)

Charlie also had a lot less inside 50s to work with.

I agree we got overs for Gibbs because he was contracted, but Gibbs also said he was happy to stay if a deal can’t get worked out. That was a extra leverage for us. I don’t think McGovern is happy to stay if a deal can’t get work out.
Yeah, I mean, McGovern is looking to leave because another club has offered him more money, but will happily forgo $500k+ and sit on the sidelines for a year if a deal doesn’t get done.

That makes perfect sense. :drunk:

Its a joke! contracts mean almost nothing to players, yet clubs cant trade a player under contract unless he agrees to.
The balance of power has swung way to far in the players favour!
good luck!
I agree with your sentiment. But a contracted ayer can only be traded if the club agrees.

He cant just leave ie nominate for draft.

Hey Deaneus, nice work with the picks in play but the only one that matters is the PP the AFL will hand out which will be pick 12 after the Lynch compensation pick is factored in.

Pick 12 and a later swap of picks will end up getting the deal done, as it always does in the end...

Saints won’t deal as they want Hanebury from Syd which will cost them 1 of their 2 high picks...

Looks like an interesting month ahead. All the best!

Do we know for sure the AFL are handing out a PP? It may help us but IMHO you shouldn't get picks, you should get salary cap relief and soft cap relief.

Also, we have a clear objective here, not sure 12 will be accepted. I suspect we'd swap Mitch and 7 for two picks from 1-5, or Mitch and 14 for one pick between 1-5 (keeping 7), because we have two clear targets that will go top 10.

Well, of major concern here is that this proves the Adelaide girlfriend theory doesn't work. :(
Since the GF has been brought up, her public instagram/FB content doesn't show much of her parents at all, which seems slightly odd, so maybe she doesn't have much family ties in SA so being young and mobile, going to Vic could be appealing for her (assuming they're staying together).

Our 2019 1st rounder will be given up this year. You can almost bookmark that we will give it up to get the deals to net Luko and Rankine.

Im not so sure anymore.

Players hold so much more power these days and contracts mean sweet fck all today.

Clubs are also less wanting to hold a player that doesnt want to be there as well.

Carlton kept Gibbs as the exception, but they are basket case and its not like they are pushing for a finals let alone a flag. They dont care if they win or lose games, they only care about draft picks.

I actually agree 12 is about right for the player himself.

The fact that Adelaide are desperate to move up, gov is contracted for 2 years and we already have 7 and 13 means pick 12 is "worthless" to us in this years draft. (worthless in "" obviously)

Unless we can package those up to GC or similar for a top 4 pick?
