East Fremantle has suffered a major blow in its hunt for a new coach, with Geoff Valentine accepting the position only to do an about-face less than a day later.

Valentine was offered the lead role at the struggling Sharks, vacated by Rob Wiley, yesterday afternoon.

After initially accepting the position, Valentine then withdrew his acceptance early this morning.
Seems abit funny.

Sounds like somebody got in his ear.

Seems like a case of existing employer gazumping the prospective employer last minute....because in all reality both gigs are coming off wooden spoons this year in their respective comps.....not sure what happens now.....as none of the other shortlisted applicants would want the job knowing they weren't first choice.....thanks for the memories Mr Valentine .....

Lot of controversy around NA even being allowed to play in the GF after that 19 man fiasco last week......Lot more excitement in that SANFL GF then the WAFL GF that is for sure.....

As for the coach andana, shouldn't be too far away mate, now with the season done bar the AFL....wonder if "former" EF coach Geoff Valentine will be coaching WP next season if Monaghan decides to move on.....to Subi?.....and wonder which ever club Schofield goes to in the AFL, a few of those Subi boys go to.....

Schofield will be at Port Adelaide, next season.

Rory O’Brien (Pinjarra/Peel)

What a return to the country for Rory O’Brien.

After retiring from the WAFL, the Sandover medallist won his fourth premiership in three years, this time alongside brother Brock, Mackenzie and Joshua at Pinjarra.

He won the Mal Smith Medal for best-afield with three majors and a stack of possessions as the Tigers went back-to-back.

A day later, O’Brien was awarded the WA Country Football League player of the year.

Lot a talk that ex EF "coach" Geoff Valentine will coach WP next year...Whilst ex WP coach Billy Monaghan will take over the reins at EF....be great if on the money...at least Billy has a proven and successful head coaching CV....something Wiley never had, despite an exemplary playing career....as for Valentine....not sure who he has been a senior head coach for....with Billy on board atleast EF fans can look into the future with some hope I guess

LOCALS have cautiously welcomed the latest redevelopment plans for East Fremantle Oval.

East Fremantle council is having its third crack at developing a master plan for the oval after earlier iterations in 2008 and 2012 were rejected by residents, who didn’t want to see parts sold off for housing to pay for the upgrade.

The council released four options at a recent community workshop which include elements such as community gardens, nature play areas, an amphitheatre or basketball courts – but no housing.

There were some things that were really clear from each of the sessions, one of which is that people do not want the A-Class reserve usage changed, and the consultants did a good job of catching what people like

Bill Monaghan will be given open slather to revamp the East Fremantle playing list after being appointed coach for the next three years.

A week after being sacked by West Perth following a decade at Joondalup highlighted by the 2013 premiership, Monaghan will take charge of the Sharks with a brief to improve the club’s ragged culture and end several seasons of mediocrity.

Brad Dodd, the former Fremantle midfielder and interim East Fremantle league coach in 2015, will rejoin the club as football manager after two seasons at Peel as reserves and colts coach.

Monaghan’s first task will be to refresh a playing list that is set to lose State utility player Jon Marsh to Victoria as well as last year’s Lynn medallist Jayden Schofield.

East Fremantle product Marco Paparone, who was de-listed by Brisbane after 55 games, is likely to be a prime target though West Coast are considering him as a rookie and potential leader in their reserves team.

West Perth also will be a major recruiting ground for the Sharks with several senior Falcons set to receive substantial pay cuts as the club attempts to rectify its dire financial situation.

I love the Sharks but I can't see the Town of East Fremantle coming up with the money or how that helps the Old Easts.

Lynn Medal Top Ten

1st George Hampson 60

2nd Jonathon Marsh 47

3rd Dylan Winton 43

4th Jayden Schofield 42

5th Cameron Eardley 40

6th Nick Kommer 34

7th Matthew Jupp 32

8th Dion Anthony 29

9th Cameron Loersch 26

10th Jarrad Jansen 23

Hampton would have been the favourite but Winton a bit of a surprise. Nice recruiting.

Gee if Kommer had stayed fit he may of pushed Hampson for the medal....

I guess with Monaghans son playing EF colts, dad would already have some decent insight into the quality of EF youth coming through. Can see Robinson, Watson, Murdock and Davidson getting some more league experience next year....think Curley due to a late birthday can go round again in the colts....though did ok in the recent WA combine on Sunday, so may be a candidate for a late round draft pick....
