My votes would have gone:

5: big star
4: mgmt
3: bee gees
2: ren
1 wheezed
Billy: Little river band or nirvana
When Weezer break-up, they'll become known as Wheezed.

5. Aqualung - A prog rock classic.

4. September Gurls - My main gripe with this is how girls is spelled. Otherwise, quintessential jangle pop.

3. I Wanna Be Everybody - Loonerty's right, the riff is similar due to the lyrics about teens having identity crisis. Far more laid back than their other stuff, nice guitars.

2. What You Gonna Do - Nice Blues jam. I do agree that it's a couple of minutes too long though.

1. No Rest For the Wicked - The fusion of drum and bass with the Indian vocals works surprisingly well especially given it's two styles of music I don't generally listen to. Again, a bit too long.

Billy: Help - Gross

Drown - Hidden early Pumpkins gem. I agree about the distortion in the last few minutes, spoils what is otherwise a great song.
Kids - Overplayed and I've already podiumed with which is why I left it out.
The Other Guy - Pretty bad
The Man Who Sold the World - Meh
Prisencolinesnsinainciusol - I'm not quite sure what this is
The Greatest Man That Ever Lived - Very average
Inner City Blues - Not his best work
How to Save a Life - A bit whiny
In the Heat of the Night - Very catchy but very dated
Hemidalsgate Like A Promethean Curse - Ok then...
Stayin' Alive - Streetwalker. It's a classic but that falsetto can get grating
Leave - Not a fan of REM and that siren that kicks in after a minute does nothing to help

I'm all out of novel theme ideas, so we'll go with something easy

It's a redux, but one we haven't had in ages...

New theme: Questions [redux]
  • Song title must be framed as a question.
  • It doesn't matter if there is no question mark. Songwriters are s**t at punctuation anyway.
  • None of the songs can be used from Round 15
  • No previous winners
  • No songs from the previous 50 rounds
Noms due by Monday 9pm (roo2macca, please update thread title)

Ineligible songs - previously nominated back in Round 15

Yeah, pretty happy with seeing a jangly power pop tune from the early 70s winning the round

Good redux. Original theme was a great idea.

That was commonplace in the early days of the contest, there's a shitload more variety now which is why, nomwise, it's better.
