FIDLAR - Can't You See

29 votes

Not a bad song, not an amazing one either, but on a playlist like this finds its way into my votes.— SM

Interesting song, HM — GreyCrow

This is a bit more up my alley. Still not an obvious 5 though. Will get votes. — Loonerty

I quite like this band, this song no exception. — NinjaSwan

Poor man's Tame Impala. In saying that, it wasn't too bad. — por_please_ya

Can’t you see that I only felt almost free when the song finished ugh — MWPP

Pretty, pretty good. Why does the vocalist seem to want to sound like Alex Turner if they’re from California? — manangatang

A bit monotonous and dull. — Hoos

I much prefer when Fidlar sang about being a rich man on his roof. — DroopStDanny

Van Halen - Why Can't This Be Love

29 votes

A classic that I love. It's a whore but I don't care — SM

Brings back memories of playing outside the local country pub on a Friday night while my parents got half cut then drove us home. Ahh the 80s! — Chappyuk

This was my original nom before changing to Joe Jackson, so yeah. 1 vote.. — GreyCrow

Why Can't This Be Love?: It's not me, it's you. — Loonerty

No thanks. — NinjaSwan

Pointy guitars and big hair. Not a bad song but not wowing me. — por_please_ya

Rousing performance , but not enough in a purely musical sense to stand out in a strong list, which is why this can’t be love :( sorry nommer — MWPP

I never liked this song. Don’t hate it, but it does nothing for me. — manangatang

This has aged horribly. Needless to say though, Van Halen did become pretty lame from the mid-80s. — roo2macca

This song has always annoyed the s**t out of me. Everything about it grates on my nerves. — Back One Out

The Sammy Hagar era of the band isn't one that I'm a fan of and neither is this song. Give me Diamond Dave any day. — Hoos

Goes a long way to proving my theory that Hagar The Horrible was named after Sammy. — DroopStDanny

World Party - Is It Like Today?

38 votes

It's discovering songs like this & the one from Edgar Summertyme which keep me coming back to the song contest. A couple of gems that I would probably never hear otherwise. — Sozabarus

I haven't noticed this group before, but I really like it. — raskolnikov

Always been a fan of World Party and this is one of my faves. BANG! — Chappyuk

Nice , inoffensive, yeah I like it but got so boring — GreyCrow

Getting some Paul Kelly vibes here from the guitar/piano. Sounds like To Her Door a bit. Not an amazing start but a decent song nonetheless. Like the story, sounds to me like it's from the perspective of God, watching his creation get progressively worse? Or less dependant on God? — Loonerty

Pretty decent pop rock song, chorus a bit underwhelming though. — NinjaSwan

Not bad, pleasant and nothing overly bad about it. May get 1 bote. — por_please_ya

Loved the lyrics and instrumentals but harshly culled on relisten as I got bored of the layering — MWPP

Got a bit of Neil Young about the vocals here. Lyrics good. Tune a bit meh. — manangatang

Lyrically, this is almost an Imagine extension. Wallinger’s soft vocals on top of the mellow guitars in the verses makes this seem like an easier-going song than the lyrics suggest. However, it’s still a nice listen. — roo2macca

It sounds like there's a better tune in there waiting to come out. Unfortunately, it never does. — Hoos

Holds up really well for something released in 1993. Sweet song with an ecological message that's sadly still as relevant now as it was back then. — Back One Out

Obviously a 1970s world party. This was as inspiring as fondue, pigs in blankets, and prawn cocktails served on iceberg lettuce. — DroopStDanny
