If that's the case, then it's a feather in our cap. I mean, look at it. :shoutyoldman:

(If all the others were similar, re Captain Marvel, it's only the Go Dees strip it works with.)

Latest on tv deal:

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl...-tv-under-four-year-deal-20181213-p50lz4.html

All AFLW games live on TV under four-year-deal

Every AFLW game will be broadcast live, with all finals televised on both free to air and Foxtel, under the new broadcast deal struck for women's football.

Under the four-year deal, Fox Footy/Foxtel will televise all games, with Channel Seven broadcasting two home-and-away matches per round, likely to be on Saturdays and Sundays in 2019. Industry sources believe the deal is worth close to $2.5 million a season.

So an extra game on Ch 7 each week compared to the previous two years and another one from 2020 in the 14-team comp. Excellent, I think.

The Age is the only source I've seen reporting a monetary figure? AFL website doesn't say yet, article ends with a "more to come" but that could be anything.

I would hope Jake Niall is correct, and it's per season (which is already small enough).
I have seen $200k per year, but I still have not seen anything official. The shortness of the season is making me worried it will not be $2.5mill per year. That works out a lot per week.

Article was updated on the AFL website to say "the new four-year deal is said to be valued at around $2 million" so I'm not sure we'll see anything more official than that. If it was $2.5m a year, I'd have expected the headlines to say "TEN MILLION DOLLAR PAY DAY" or something.

geez, if it's only $500k per annum, that's pretty disappointing, less than the salaries of one club
Works out at about $70K per round, which is disappointing, but $2.5 mill for such a short season would have bee a lot.
Its also worth noting that a 4 year deal brings it into line with the AFL media deal roll over date, so the next deal may be for both.

(1) Nicole Livingstone enunciates the issues for expanding the AFLW (from 14 teams in 2020) to 18 teams sometime after 2020: primarily, safety of the players, time required to reach an appropriate overall skill standard, & "financial stability".

It is for this short & long term strategic reason (ie health of the code/maintaining its primacy over other codes, as Australia has the world's most competitive sports' environment)) that the AFL:-.

. regards the AFLW as an investment by the AFL in GR AF.
. considers AFLW players should receive a pay rise- & not be bound purely by the traditional male metrics of TV ratings & crowd nos.
. "enter AFLW...(in 2017, booming female player nos.- my words) obviously continue to pump money into the game".

The AFL is showing great vision by this approach...long overdue for female AF!

You don't have to be Nostradamus to predict that the standard will rise. It's a 2/10 atm so going to a 3/10 isn't that great a prediction

Hope you're not going by the irrelevant CTM scale.

Just noticed amongst the many links to various articles an article talking about the future plans of the BBL by Cricket Australia.
They have extended their season to mid Feb sharing or encroaching depending which way you look at at on the AFLW.
The BBL will take some of the media from our Womens game or doesnt matter at this time.

Seeing as Daisy Pearce is 31 weeks preggers.

If the womens league was a fair bit longer than it is currently how would a club handle a pregnant players contract if they were to be pregnant during the season. (I would assume that once they find out they are pregnant they would not risk the contact from an actual game)

Would it be treated as a 9~ month injury?

They're allowed to play in the early stages. I am not sure if their even is an official cut off stage. They are also treated like a long term injury, with a top up player allowed.
