There is one other option, that is brought every now and then, and most likely the easiest one to get council approval.
The Club takes over the Aquatic centre and expands on that, they could then get a north-south ground Adelaide oval size for the AFLW and SANFL match day plus training on the eastern side of the centre, and then have an East-West, MGC size ground on the southern side of the centre.
Failing that then it out in the suburbs
Thebby oval plus Kings reserve give them two grounds,
West beach next to the Bite has room for 2 grounds

All have Promised, The Aquatic centre has a slight advantage as it offers a secondary revenue, and bigger exposure to government both Federal and Stae funding from several sports. including Olympic funding, the area will have Mens and Women Football, Swimming, Driving other Watersports, ESports, and maybe in 10 years a baseball park

Forgot to add about the Aquatic centre idea, in 5 years time the may be a tram running up to Piccadilly, meaning they can offer a park and ride for match days using the tram and buses, With car parking on the Northern ground.

I wouldn't want the AFC to take over a debt making business.

Councillor Anne Moran told ABC Radio Adelaide the facility lost as much as $700,000 each year and the council could not afford the urgent upgrades the centre requires.

She said the State Government abandoned the North Adelaide facility when it built the state aquatic centre at Marion.

"We've been left holding the enormous debt-making business when only just under 7 per cent of our ratepayers have used it at least once in a year," she said.

It's council own and Operated, No visions, no improvement plans to generate income. only swimming, Council cannot add to the building.
But given the right circumstances, they could get the place with a 100year lease and the council looking after the grounds.
A Private company can take over and make it work, upgrade and extend the building ie HQ for the Crows, with a large fitness and rehab setup, Modernise with solar and water collection to reduce costs, Include Private Doctors and specialist turn it into a large rehab centre.
The Crows can make it work and use it as a revenue venue,
The Council would not and cannot do that.

Who wants a bet that within 5 years we have started construction on an inner city club and training facility?

If that business comes with a free long term lease of land where the loan repayments to buy it would be similar to what the business costs you, then you would do it and back yourself to reduce the losses by improving the business.

Sadly I think we will.

Want to go on record that I am against it.

As I was about moving to Adelaide Oval.

And now love the place Haha.

My wife has played softball there and we were thinking our investment could improve facilities there.

Distance from CBD? Meh, again why in the city. Is the old Adelaide thing where the CBD is the centre of SA and all roads (and trains) must lead there?

I work in the city and dont really see the point. And a place like the Aquatic Centre wont be used match days.

I hope our investment can see some improvements at the Diamond Sports Complex. This season they managed to shade most of the GA seating for Bite games, which I'd like to think the club had an involvement with.

Any of the golf clubs near the airport in financial trouble? Would be awesome if they had a big base that everyone who flies in or out of Adelaide sees.
Been a few "crows have purchased land near the airport" rumours going around. I just though people were referring to the new afl max centre that pods & co started.

It’s not rocket science Anne, just close it.

And that’s what I think will happen, once we move everyone will love it.

It would be fantastic to finally have a club you can go to and in such a central prominent position.

And the thing is the club isn’t going to make the move if it puts us in a messy financial position. They are too cautious for that.

I've often wondered why the showgrounds haven't been considered as a club/training base. Plenty of public transport, city fringe, space for development. Sure there might be some issues with the Royal Show, but nothing stopping them from shifting the dates back to coincide with school holidays just after the AFL season. Seems like a prime piece of real estate hardly ever used.

I think there's quite a bit of merit to the idea of us taking over the aquatic facility and turning it into something excellently swish for our own uses

We're not tearing up parklands, it's already been developed

a longer-term thing but i see potential

Where abouts exactly? Rotating roster of events held all year, not just the royal show. Would make it a bit of a mess for the club to negotiate, multiple times annually.

And the benefit for the club is?

Surely if there was any benefit to that, you partner up with a semi-popular pub in Adelaide. That solves everything bar training, but I doubt you'd get any real upswing in attendance in open days (seeing that's the only likely time you'll be allowed to watch training) with a move seeing anyone who is going to go will go regardless of where.
Don't disagree, one of those 2 things needs to happen though. Coopers Alehouse a good option
